I don’t like to exercise

No, really, I don’t.  At heart, I’m a lazy girl who would like to sit on the couch with a book and a beer.

(Just for the record, running is not exercise.  It’s a drug. A very addictive drug.)

I’m not a fan of the gym or going to classes or riding a bike for anything other than fun.

Oh, sure, I talk a good game.  I talk about how I want to cross train.  I talk about how zen yoga is.  I write great reviews about the awesome class I attended.  And I mean all it before AND after.

It’s the during I have a problem with.  I’m the one mentally cursing the instructor.  I’m the one hating on the “pain” (ok, really it’s just muscle burn).  I’m the one peaking at the clock, willing it to go faster.

But you know what, I’m still there.  I’m the one giving every little bit I can to that particular workout.  My *body* doesn’t know that I’m not loving every minute of it.  All my body knows is that it’s getting worked.

And that’s what matters.  I run to be happy.  I cross train to be healthy.  And if my little non-liftable T-Rex arms are any indication, I take classes to get guns.

I appreciate the honesty of your post! In the end, you do it for you, your health and overall well-being and happiness :) Keep it up!

I did a Barre class recently…I need to go back!

Great post. I have a love-hate relationship with the gym. I hate it when I go in but by the time I leave I love it…probably because I’m going home :) When it comes to running, I do it because I like it. I don’t use any gadgets most of the time because it is my “me” time. I like how you put it “I run to be happy; I cross train to be healthy”.

I agree! It is not always easy to get out there and feel the burn – especially when books and beer are calling. But you DO get there and do it! And your body will thank you later!

I so enjoy the planning (for races and workouts) and the talking about them after more than actually doing them too. Looking forward to hearing about your cross training, I’m always on the lookout for something new.

Some days I am the lazy girl who just wants to read a book and have a beer. But after I go out and do whatever it is I do, I feel so good. That drug, adrenaline, keeps me coming back for just “one more hit”! I can’t wait to hear about the barre class and to see your new guns!

I totally agree with you! Sometimes I enjoy the scenery, but mostly I wish the clock would go faster, that whatever I’m doing was easier. True in running and in my work life. I’m glad I’m not the only one. But running with people, like at a race, can bring some of the fun back to it. And this time of year, I really struggle with motivation because it gets so hot!

The fact that you do it even though you don’t always like it makes you even stronger in my book. It’s easy to exercise when you love it, not so much if you don’t:) Way to go!

Sometimes it isn’t always the best while doing it, but we feel so darn good about ourselves afterwards. I try to always keep that in mind. I’ve never felt “bad” about getting it done after… i always feel the exact opposite.

getting my butt up is my biggest problem. Once Im dressed, out the door, and working out I love it – but getting me to that point? HA. not so fun ;)

I’m like Charlotte- sometimes I can drag my feet and dread a hard workout, but once I get going, I’m happy (most of the time!)

I feel the same way. I hated running for so long that I wouldn’t even consider running for fun for almost a decade but now I love it and on the days it isn’t fun I don’t run.

Sometimes it’s even running that’s hard to go out and do if I’m honest. Like on Thursday when I got up with the alarm and then went back to bed. But if I stay up more times than I let myself go back to bed then I’ve got to be doing something right. Right?!

I love your just for the record comment, “running is not exercise…”

To get guns is as good a reason as any! Someone at work told me I had great guns. That was a first and when I consider skipping strength training I’ll remember that comment :)

Running is a happy pill. If you take it every day you feel happy. I’d swallow that pill any day!
