Beer Geek loves this Jeep Cherokee more than he loves me a lot. It was our first major purchase together back in 1995 (OK, he purchased it, I just made him buy one with four doors. Yes, I was already thinking about kids. ) It has been an amazing car. In 17 years, it’s needed regular maintenance (oil changes + tires), two water pumps, and some brake work. That’s it. I really couldn’t ask for a more reliable car. Unfortunately, however, it has very little in the way of safety features, so I replaced it with a Honda Pilot.
Beer Geek was not ready to let go of his baby, so he’s been using it as his commuting car for the last year and a half. And then the door hinge broke. He’s been climbing in and out of the passenger door for weeks, while waiting for me to figure out where to get it fixed.
Today was that day. And I suppose you are wondering what this has to do with fitness. Well, the repair shop was 3.5 miles from our house. And it was 90 degrees this morning.
And I ran home. Thanks to all the running and cross training I do, 3 miles was nothing. Thanks to all the blog reading I do, I knew how to handle the heat. I ran slow (even walked a few hills), chose shade when I could, and ran with a handheld full of nuun. I was pretty sweaty and gross when I got home, but I got ‘er done.
