The good, the bad, and the thirsty

by MCM Mama on September 6, 2012

It’s been a crazy first week back at school.  The boys are adapting ok, not great, but ok.  Both of them get really emotional when changes take place, so the drama has been pretty high up in here.  Thankfully they both have awesome teachers, so they’ll settle in soon.  Me?  I may have to clone myself to make it to every event that is now on our schedule.  Welcome to September.  Sigh.

The Good

I’ve been selected as a Sweat Pink Ambassador!  I’m pretty excited!  I haven’t had time to get super involved yet, but it seems like an awesome group of supportive women.  I can’t wait to figure out who’s local and hopefully meet up with some at races this fall.

I’ve also been selected to be an official Blogger for the Blue Ridge Marathon.  While I found the elevation, umm, challenging last year, I had an awesome time at the race.  Assuming my body survives my crazy 5 half marathons scheme, I’d love to go back in the spring.  It’s a wonderful little town with a ton of support for the race.  (Stay tuned as I’ll have an entry giveaway in October!

The Bad

Summer just won’t leave.  I hate heat and humidity and Virginia has been full of both the last few days.  Yesterday’s run was one of the worst I’ve had in a while.  Even in just a running bra and shorts, I was sopping wet and overheated by the end of my five mile run.  I ended up walking a lot of hills on the back part of my out and back.  The only thing that kept the run from being the worst thing ever was that I was running with a friend.  At least I had someone to talk to when I was walking and gasping for breath.

The Thirsty

It’s Thirsty Thursday!

Today’s beer is a Doppelbock made in Bavaria, Germany.  Back in the days before craft beers were so easy to get, we used to drink a lot of imported beer.

Aventinus is a wonderful dark, sweet doppelbock that packs an alcohol wollop without tasting like it does.  At 8% alcohol, it is definitely a sipping beer.  I was gifted a few for my birthday and enjoyed two of them at a friend’s house over the weekend.  I ended up sharing the second one as two was a bit too much for this lightweight in one evening.  When we did the first beer dinner three years ago, I paired it with some awesome sausages.  Saturday night it tasted great with barbecue.  I probably wouldn’t drink it with a mild white fish, but other than that, I’m sure I’d like it with just about any food.

Congrats on Sweat Pink and Blue Ridge Blogger!

I am a huge beer fan but I just never buy anything other than Coors light as that is all my picky husband will drink. NO sense of adventure there!

Oooo that sounds delicious! I like dark beers, and with a nice sausage on the grill? Heaven.

The good certainly outweighs the bad by far. You can also add beer to that so all in all things are great! :) Good luck with school and attending all the events!

The heat will eventually ease for you. Unlike here. It NEVER goes away here!

I had my first warm run of the season and I can tell you that I’m not looking forward to summer, not one little bit.
