Take it where you can get it

Motivation, that is.

I’m pretty internally motivated.  I run because I love it.  I run because I have goals. I don’t usually need to bribe myself to run.

That said, my motivation is in hiding.  I know why.  I’ve been hit by a one-two punch:  my running isn’t going well and I have a lot on my plate.  What do I mean by running not going well?  Lately, it seems to be much harder to run at my “easy pace.”  I feel like I’m working when I should be thinking it’s too easy.  As far as too much on my plate, well, it is October LOL.

I usually run by myself.  My schedule just doesn’t lend itself well to meeting up with people.  This year, though, a neighbor’s daughter just entered kindergarten.  My neighbor is a runner.   She actually has motivation these days.

I’m borrowing it.  Every time she messages me on Facebook about going for a run, I say yes.  I drop whatever I’m doing, put on my running clothes (oh, who am I kidding? I always have running clothes on), and head out the door.

Would I like my motivation to come back?  Umm, yeah. For now though, I’ll borrow hers.  My body doesn’t know that my mind is not into it.

Borrowed motivation sometimes transforms into your own motivation. Let your neighbor is carrying the load for now. Cheers!

lol…me too!

I would say if you are saying yes to her you aren’t completely out of motivation, but keep saying yes!

Borrowed motivation is better than no motivation!

My motivation comes and goes in phases. That’s awesome that you can run with your neighbor-that’s the best kind of accountability. I started meeting up with a local group about once a week, which also helps.

It’s great that you’ve found something that works for you. And it is motivation in a way – you could easily say no when she wanted to run but you’re not.

OMW! I posted a lack of motivation blog too on Monday! And I’ve read about 6 others this week! I think it is a WORLD wide epidemic right now. There is some cosmic force zapping motivation from in-need mothers…okay maybe that is a little extreme. But you get the picture! Although I still have to kick myself into gear and will not use this as a “well I’m not the only one” excuse; it is a little relieving to know I’m not the only one climbing this mountain right now (oh, and believe me a lack of motivation is a big fact Mt. Kilaminjaro mountain!!)
