State of the run

by MCM Mama on February 15, 2013

So, yesterday’s post may have been written while under the influence of a runner’s high.  Maybe.

I am, tentatively, back to running.  Right now that means 3 things: barefoot, treadmill, slow as molasses.

I ran 2.3 miles on Wednesday and it felt ok.  Not great, but no pain, just tightness. It was a rainy day and cold + rain + no run = mama ain’t happy, so I ran just enough (at a barely above walking speed) to get happy without hurting myself.

Yesterday I stepped on the treadmill with only two goals: 1) don’t hurt myself and 2) run farther than I did on Wednesday.  I wore tighter compression sleeves and that seemed to help.  I managed to run faster than the previous day (that’s a bit like comparing a tortoise and a turtle)  and I felt pretty good.  I was surprised that I made it to close to 6 miles before I started getting a little tight. Today I woke up with few little random pains and tightness, but nothing worrisome.

So, what next?

In just over four weeks, I’ll be lining up at the start of the first of 5 half marathons.  Four weeks, people!

Here’s the plan:

Rest of this week – run today and Saturday.  I may actually run outside today as it’s supposed to be nice out, but we’ll see.

Then it’s two weeks of 45-50 miles each, one week of 35-40, and a final 20-30 mile week.  And then, it’s go time.

Seems like just yesterday I joked about doing this crazy adventure.  Now it’s almost time to stalk the weather and pack.

Cue the panic button!

That post run high is great, isn’t it? I almost signed up for a marathon that I’m nowhere near read to do because of one. Kinda makes you feel like you’re ten feet tall and bullet proof.

Happy to hear that your injuries are subsiding and that your training is getting back on track so that you can rock your 1st of the 5 marathons! Good luck!
