Last week was a busy week. The boys and I were pleased to have a snowy day in Wisconsin before we left.
Shoo got to play in the snow and go sledding with Papa.
I got to try out my new Altra NeoShell Lone Peaks. I’m pretty much in love with them and want it to snow lots in Virginia this year. (Review coming soon.)
Soon it was time to head home. I am always a mixture of sad and happy when it’s time to leave. I was ready to be in my own space again and to see Beer Geek, but I always hate leaving my family. Packing was a bit challenging this year as I had a lot of beer and Christmas presents to bring back, but thanks to Southwest’s “two free checked bags” policy and an extra bag from my parents, I succeeded. (One of the bags did approach the weight limit though. Oops.)
New Year’s Eve was a busy day of grocery shopping, unpacking, dinner out with Beer Geek at our usual NYE restaurant and then a party with friends. I didn’t get to bed until after 1, which made getting up at 5am a challenge.
Yes, I chose to get up at 5am on New Year’s Day. Why? Because I wanted to see my RBF, Cynthia. Ok, really I was working the DC Mayor’s “Fresh Start 5K”. This was a mental challenge for me as I don’t drive in DC, but I put on my big girl panties and did it.
I was in charge of the water stop, so had the pleasure of seeing Courtney twice while she was running. No, it did not occur to me to snap a picture. The race was a blast and I survived driving in DC (the most challenging part was getting out of the RFK parking lot LOL).
On Saturday, Beer Geek and I headed out to Fairwinds Brewing to try out their beers and take a tour. Our friend Charlie is the brewer, so it was fun to check out his new place.
I highly recommend it as his beers were quite tasty (and he gave a great tour.) If you are heading that way, Forge Brewery is also right there, so make it a twofer.
On Sunday, I spent my morning planning vacation and races. All I can say is that 2016 has the potential to be epic.
Then I spent the rest of the day attempting to conquer Mount Laundry. Oy. I’m not sure which was worse – all that laundry or trying to get Shoo to finish his journal entries. Both were not my favorites.
Today it’s back to routine and it’s time to figure out a training plan. I finished the Runner’s World Run Streak and stopped running for two days. Now it’s time to work on some speed and some cross training to set me up for half marathon training which will start in a couple of months.
