When an unexpected box showed up at my door a few weeks ago, I picked it up and thought “who sent me an empty box?” Seriously. It was that light. Turns out, Saucony sent me a pair of Kinvara 4’s to try out.
I’ll admit I didn’t exactly jump for joy when I opened the box. I mean, I loved the packaging, but I was pretty sure that I wasn’t going to like the shoes. I had tried on the Kinvara 3’s not long before and they didn’t work for me. (I bought the Virrata’s instead.)
But, I love shoes. No, really, I have a ridiculous number of shoes. So, I decided to give the 4s a try.
According to Saucony:
Building on its award winning pedigree, the Kinvara 4 is a perfect synthesis of celebrated design elementsfrom previous versions. The redesigned upper continues to utilize FlexFilm for a lightweight, seamless feel.Kinvara loyalists will love the upgrade from ProGrid to PowerGrid in the heel landing zone for even smoothertransitions and an improved overall ride.• Heel cushioning technology upgraded from ProGrid to PowerGrid• Redesigned upper features FlexFilm for lightweight, seamless feel
Not sure what part of that made these feel different, but I put them on and felt like I could fly. Since they are cushiony with a 4mm drop, they fall right into the category of shoes that seems to be working best for me.
I’ll admit, the longest run I’ve done in these is 5 miles. But I’ve done MANY shorter, faster runs. These shoes make me feel sassy and like I can run super fast. Maybe it’s the color. Maybe it’s the lighter than light feel (6.7 oz.) Maybe it’s all in my head. But who cares? I’ve been wearing these every time I do a speed workout and every single time I’ve hit my goals.
So, yeah, the Kinvara 4s have a permanent place in my “stable” of shoes, as my racing shoes. ‘Cause even if they don’t make me fast, they make me look fast.
