13 in 2013

December 4, 2012 by MCM Mama 15 Comments

Note to my parents and husband – no, not 13 half marathons, just 13 races.

This year I nearly joined Jill’s 12 half marathons in 12 months challenge, but thankfully talked myself out of it. Since I spent most of the spring and summer fighting injuries, I was glad that I didn’t have any external pressure to run more.  This year, Jill is going for 13 in 2013, but she’s offering options for distance, as well as counting virtual races.

My choice?  13 races in 2013.  With 5 half marathons already scheduled, I don’t see any difficulty in hitting 13 races.

Here are my very tentative plans for 2013..

February: Love the Run You’re With 5k (1)
March: Four Courts Four (2)
Dust Bowl Series (3,4,5,6,7)
July: Some race in Kentucky (8)
Some other race in that area (9)
September: Clarendon Day (10)

Look at that 10 actual races in 2013 without even trying hard. I know I will likely do a virtual race of some sort in January (goodness knows I’ll need motivation to keep running by then). I also plan to pick up some other spring and fall races, but I need to recover from my current crazy adventure before I start a new one LOL.

Have you started planning your 2013 calendar?

You’ve got 13 races, easy! I wish I lived closer to more races, getting to 13 would get expensive!

Wow, I’m amazed you have planned that far in advance. I know what I’m doing until Feb. 23rd. But after that, no clue. Have fun with your races!

My 2013 calendar is very sparse. I’ve kind of switched my priorities (might need to be saving for a wedding!) so I haven’t registered for much.

So far its just the Rock N Roll Half in Dallas in March – and that’s only if I can find cheap airfare.

I love that having lots of races plans keeps me accountable, but I’ve really enjoyed sleeping in the last few weekends too!

Hahahaha! I thought of you when I saw Jill’s post. 5 right off the bat…you might want to squeeze NC in in April, just sayin’.

I’m not sure I want to plan 13 races next year. Kind of weird, I know. I’ve already got 5 paid for…what’s 8 more, right? Part of me wants to really train for one for a change. Lots to think about.

I’m hoping there’ll be more races in 2013 than there were in 2012. I can’t make any plans until my drugs kick in and I start to feel normal again BUT I’m excited that I WILL feel normal again

Wow. That schedule seems strangely empty after August. How ’bout joining me for the Rock’n’Roll Philly Half in September…or better yet…the full Philly in Novemember :). They are truly super-fun races!

However, I am very seriously considering making the Bob Potts Marathon my first. Just sayin’. Could be a nice finish after your 5in5 :).

In any event, you are as always, an inspiration. Thanks for keeping my running mojo going even when my knees won’t :).

I’m doing her 13 in 13 or varying distances, too! (And hosting a virtual race January 1 if you want to join). 🙂 Saw that you’re my holiday card buddy!

I’m more in the “less is more” camp when it comes to races. I like to prepare and do well at them and for me that means fewer races.

Woohoo! You joined! I love your note/disclaimer to your family and husband. There were times this year when my whole family felt like they were doing the 12 in 2012 challenge 🙂

Great goal for 2013! I’ll have to check this out. My calendar is planned for more than 5 years in advance but there must be 13 of something in there for next year.

Looks like a good line up! I have yet to plan 2013, other than Cherry Blossom (do you ever do that?). Right now, I need to chill and not even think of running.

With the option to do 13 races of any distance I think there will be lots of and lots of people participating. Since virtual races are included it should be easy to hit 13 in 2013.

It’s great when your body is responding in the right way! Five half marathons in 5 days sounds really intimidating to me ánd my body.
