This past weekend, I ran the Wausau Half Marathon on Saturday, drove 3 hours to Minnesota, ran the Woodbury Country Mile Half Marathon on Sunday and then drove 3.5 hours to my aunt and uncle’s house for a family party. It was an exhausting, but fun weekend. I got to meet two other Skirt Sports ambassadors and hang out with a college friend. I also came away with two tech shirts, two medals, two race bibs, and a variety of other swag. As a serial racer, that’s a lot of stuff to add to my collection. Spoiler: the shirts aren’t even going home with me.
Appropriately, today’s topic for Tuesdays on the Run is:
What do you do with race memorabilia? Do you save everything or dispose of a lot? Do you have it organized or in a pile?
I am quite protective of my medals and my pint glasses. I have displays in my bedroom for both. (Confession: I still need to hang one of my racks.)
Race bibs are in a scrapbook, but not actually organized in said book. They are mostly just shoved in there. I’m not even sure if I have all of them and honestly, don’t really care.
Race shirts, on the other hand, don’t last long in my house. Cotton unisex shirts become rags or get worn by Jones. Most tech shirts get given away immediately. A very few end up in my drawer to be worn occasionally. The one big exception to that are the ones from my 17 half marathon in 2014 that included my 13 in 78 days to get to Venus. I had them made into a gorgeous quilt. (I will not be doing a similar quilt for Mercury.)
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know I’ve had a busy summer and finally reached my goal of hitting Mercury with Half Fanatics. The boys and I are heading home from Wisconsin tomorrow and I’m ready to get back into a routine. We still have a couple of weeks until school starts, but it’ll be nice to be back in our own space and able to get back to normal. I’m hoping to get back on track with blogging and all the associated activities, but I have to admit I’ve enjoyed letting it take a bit of a back seat this summer. On the top of my to do list is to brainstorm Tuesday topics for the rest of the year. Got any you’d like us to incorporate?

Wow, you were pretty busy out there!
I shove my bibs in aa scrapbook as well but they are not organized either!
I love your Run the States rack!
One person’s keepsake is another’s clutter, right? Like you, I definitely keep my medals. My pint glasses are in use, I know I’m inviting disaster that way but I’m reaching critical mass on display space. Yay for a couple more weeks of summer vacay. The kids here go back way too soon IMO.
I’m kind of hit & miss on shirts, too. I have very few cotton event shirts…they just don’t usually make it home because I know I’ll probably never wear them (and most have a very unflattering fit anyways). I’ve thought about having a quilt(s) made…but I would not use it, nor do I have any wall space to display it LOL
Shirts are always hit or miss, but I’ll keep them until I have enough for a quilt. I never know what the material will feel like, or what the cut will be, or what size I should get. I’ll wear the ones I like until I’ve got enough to send in.
I am terrible with race memorabilia. I tend to get rid of all of it. I also give my shirts to goodwill because more races need tanks. That’s all I will wear!
I love your medal racks!
I keep and display all of my medals but like you, I rarely wear any of the shirts I get at races. They are not normally the right fit or style.
That quilt is great! I like the idea of highlighting key races in a shirt quilt.
Love the quilt!! Thats something I’d actually use!????
Holy race bling, Batman! That is a LOT of stuff. I’m relatively new, so I still value my tech shirts, bibs and medals. They’re my precious.
I typically wear my race shirt immediately after showering post-race and hang both my bib and medal on a display I made.
That said, I hope to run long enough that things will change in that regard. Thanks for linking up!
ooooh Id be a HUGE SAVE’R but that would be since Id have about 5.
Id wanna laminate my bibs and….hang?
I’m starting to get a collection of pint glasses too… they go in the cabinet…trying to crowd out the mason jars the hubs insists on using as proper drinkware.
I had a nice display up in my home office/guest bedroom until we moved… going on two years ago! To be honest, I’m not 100% sure where all those medals and the nice medal hangers are, and since then my hubs & my medals kind of just float around the house. Drawers, desks, wherever!
