I knew I’d have trouble making myself run last night, so I put on my running clothes as soon as we got back from picking Jones up from school. When Beer Geek walked in the door, I hit the treadmill. Since it was Friday night and I was feeling unmotivated, I aimed for three miles in 30 minutes. After one mile I was B-O-R-E-D! I ended up fartleking three more miles, for a total of 4 miles in 36:35. Apparently I can’t go slow on the treadmill or I will lose my mind. The funny thing is, I was watching the news while I ran. I can watch the news for hours while sitting on my butt or cooking and I can read newspapers for an equally long amount of time. But put me on a treadmill and OMG the news is so boring LOL.
Today was supposed to be nasty out all day. We got a surprise break in the rain around 10 am, so I decided to earn the “Best Mom EVER” award. I had to deliver the monthly neighborhood newsletters, so I put the boys in their rainboots and loaded all the newsletters on my back. We spent the next hour and a half walking around dropping them off, picking up leaves, and jumping in puddles (the boys, not me LOL). The boys were completely drenched by the time we got home, but they had a good time. The weather continued to hold, so I decided to go for a run.
I thought about doing a fast 4 miles, but my legs were tired from last night’s run and the ground had lots of slippery, wet leaves. So, I planned a 10 minute pace. I ended up doing the 4 in 38 minutes. The last mile was pretty hellish as the wind had decided to pick up and when a gust would hit me, suddenly I’d be running backwards and sideways. When I got home, Beer Geek was just returning with the boys. They had gone bike riding, but the wind was a bit too much for them. Not much later, we had a huge downpour again, so I’m glad I got home when I did.
I plan to spend the rest of my evening drinking beer. We have some good friends coming over and I’ve made a pot of chili and some corn bread. I probably won’t be making any drunk posts ala Jess because, well, I do have to stay sober enough to deal with kids LOL, but I do plan to have a very happy evening. ;o)
Good job on both runs! I can’t do much more than 2 miles on the treadmill without going crazy…
Lock the kids in a closet and enjoy those beers!
I’m the same way with the treadmill. I don’t mind doing intervals or fartleks, but a slow, easy run drives me bonkers. So you didn’t jump in even one puddle?
Great work on both runs! I like how you don’t give yourself time to talk yourself out of the run. I feel your pain on the treadmill….
You drink up that beer baby! YOu deserve it 😉
I’m the exact same way with the treadmill. I can run fast and get it over with as quick as possible, otherwise I can’t run on the thing at all anymore. And to think–when I started running I was afraid to run outside and leave the safety of the treadmill. You are doing so great keeping up your mileage after the marathon. I’m a complete slacker this month.
