I’m not a morning person. I can count on the fingers of one hand (heck on the finger on one hand) the number of times I’ve gotten up early to run. But twice a year, I get up stupid early to give back to the running community.
Yep, it’s Girls on the Run race day. For the last three years, I have volunteered as a Start/Finish Line Team Leader for the Girls on the Run NOVA. It’s one of the biggest GOTR races with around 6000 runners, so it’s a pretty big production.
I arrived before 6:00am and runners were already beginning to arrive. My job today? To stand between the first group of girls and the starting chute. Always love a chance to exert my authority! ;o)
In actuality, I have never had such a pleasant set of people at the front. They were extremely polite and I didn’t have a single parent give me attitude about the rules. And watching a bunch of middle aged dads trying to dance “Gangnam style”? Absolutely priceless.
The nearly an hour drive each way + four hours of standing in the cold may mean I miss a training run for the first time this round, but even if it does, it was worth it. (And I’m still hopeful I can find the energy to knock out 3 miles on the treadmill this evening.)
How was your Sunday?
Trying to get up of my behind to run 10 today. Lots of depressed people around my house. You’d think that S’ boyfriend just dumped him right before the prom, he’s so sad that the Ducks lost last night.
Gangnam Style was playing at the markets we were at on Saturday and there were quite a few people who weren’t able to resist busting out some moves. It was a quiet weekend for me – just one 10k and lots of huddling inside away from the storms.
I DO love my mornings….but not so much the late nights :0)
I almost did the disney wine and dine and PASSED all because of the pm start time.
I’m a morning person and always run between 4 and 6 am. I had a great Sunday that started with a 10km run at 5.
