We all know I don’t get up early to exercise. I’m just not a morning person.
But I’ll get up early for a race. Even if I’m not racing.
This past Sunday was the {rescheduled} Woodrow Wilson Half Marathon. I haven’t run it since the Inaugural race (not because it’s a bad race, I just don’t like to deal with the logistics involved.) But a moms’ running group that I’ve become involved with was working the water stop at mile 8 and needed more people. Since I enjoy volunteering nearly as much as running, I decided to go.
Hence, the 4am wakeup. Yawn!
Sunrise? Not something I see very often…
But, once again, it was totally worth it. Because manning a water stop at a race? Totally fun. “Momming” a water stop at race? Absolutely.Freakin.Awesome.
As anyone who’s been involved with a race knows, snafus happen. But we rolled with the punches and you KNOW moms are gonna come up with creative solutions. In this case? Picnic tables when the water stop tables got misplaced. ‘Cause yeah, we are awesome like that.
All in all, a fun, fun time.
On the running front, I’ve decided to go with “the hay is in the barn.” I can’t add to my endurance this week, I can just end up hurting myself. I’m running easy and running short distances. This weekend will be physically challenging, but I’ve decided to embrace the fun side of it. There are a lot of cool people down in Richmond and I’m staying with one of the coolest, so my run may be slow, but my day should be a blast!
I was signed up to run Wilson Bridge and was really disappointed when it got postponed. I wasn’t able to run the new date because I am running Richmond this weekend too, and don’t have time in my schedule to give over two weekends in a row to racing. My husband would have smiled and said “Go ahead” but that would be a bummer for him. I’ll say hello if I see you!
Woodrow Wilson was my first half a couple of years ago and I loved it. I love volunteering for races – so fun and a great experience!
see?
I SHOULD be a runner.
Good luck for this weekend. Go out there and just have a lot of fun! Except when it hurts and then just suck it up and keep going.
