Generally speaking, I prefer cooler weather over hot weather. I’d rather put on more layers than be wearing as little as I can in public and still being hot. And after a rather elusive fall, winter apparently arrived yesterday in the form of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, so I guess I need to get mentally ready for winter now.
Berres Brothers coffee – Most of the year I drink Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts coffee – whichever is on sale in the grocery store. But once a year, Berres Brothers, a Wisconsin based coffee company, has a big sale and I stock up. I love that they have a ridiculous number of flavor options and that the coffee is smoother than Starbucks. I also love that I’m supporting a small local company (not my local, but small town local near where I want to be LOL.)
A heated mattress pad – I am always cold when I crawl into bed at night and I hate the feeling of getting between cold sheets. So, a while before I go to bed, I turn on my electric mattress pad to warm things up. The feeling of getting into a warm and cozy bed helps me immediately relax and fall asleep quickly. I usually turn it off when I get into bed because once I’m warm, the huge pile of blankets I sleep with keeps me warm.
Skirt Sports Wonder Wool and Hangout/Go Out collection – I am the queen of wearing layers. I tend to warm up a lot when I’m moving, but if I’m sitting and working, I get cold quickly. So, I have a billion different jackets and hoodies. I love that the Wonder Wool is both warm and cute. While I do sometimes pair it with other Skirt Sports items, I love how it looks with jeans. And the Hangout jacket and pants? Most comfortable and cozy “sweats” that I own. Perfect for working from home on a cold day! (Also, don’t miss out – Skirt Sports has already started their Black Friday sale (affiliate link)!
Radiator heat – We live in an old house with radiators. I swear I’m never going to be able to live someplace with forced air heat after this. Even though there are downsides to our old house (not a lot of insulation = you can feel the wind some days), just raising the temp a degree in the house means major warmth coming from the radiators. As a bonus, the pipes from the radiators go right under my bathroom floor, so my bathroom always has a heated floor in the winter.
Oofos boots – OK, I haven’t actually received these yet, but I think they are going to be my favorites this year. I love my Oofos shoes and slides – ever since I hurt my foot I’ve been living in their shoes. I’ve even worked at the ZOOMA races wearing the slides and I took a pair of the low shoes to Australia and New Zealand this summer for all of our touring around. Quite frankly, Oofos and Altras are the only thing I can wear comfortably right now.
What winter items make winter more enjoyable for you? I’d love to hear how you stay comfortable as the temperatures drop.
I’m joining Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup.
I didnt know oofos made boots. I love their sandals.
I am a huge OOfos fan as well and I have been wanting to try the boots. My other ones just irritate my feet now. Let me know how they are!
Coffee, tea, and more coffee. Plus lots of cozy sweaters.
Those boots are on my list! They better be under my tree this coming Christmas!
I’m all about the flannel sheets!! We have a heated (top) blanket, but haven’t had to dig it out yet. I only have a pair of Oofos slides, and I LOVE them. I can only imagine how nice the boots would be!
I’m intrigued by the Oofos boots. I wish they were a bit more stylish so I could get away with them at work …. maybe on snow days.
A friend bought me a heated mattress pad after she stayed in my drafty apartment – never thought I needed it, but whoa. And I’m with you on adding layers vs. peeling off skin
