5 Fitness Items on my Wish List

2018 has been a year of trying something new. I’m trying to roll with the punches for our family schedule, I’ve taken another part time job running ZOOMA’s ambassador program, and I’m working out in a different way. I’ve had to make some changes to my life to accommodate those things. I keep a running list of tickets I need to buy and races I’d like to run (along with deadlines for price increases, although I’m currently of the opinion that I’ll pay more and actually run a race rather than register early and lose that money if life gets in the way.) I have timers on my computer that I use so that I can account for my time for two very different jobs and I try very hard to give them each a chunk of my day. And I’ve set up my fitness room to allow me to do the workouts in the program I’m doing  – The Faster Way to Fat Loss. *

As I’ve been doing the workouts, I’ve realized I have few things on my want list. I mean, I have plenty of things to make the workouts work, but let’s be honest, there are always ways to improve. So here are the five things I plan to buy as I find good deals on them.

Weight bench *- I’ve wanted one of these for years, but never had room for one. With the huge cleanout at the beginning of the year, I’ve created space for it. This is not a huge necessity – I make due with a combination of a trunk, an exercise ball, and a step. But it would sure make it easier to do certain exercises if I had it.

Weight organizer *- I have weights ranging from 2 pounds to 20 pounds, all piled in a corner. At the start of a weight workout, I find myself pulling the big weights from the bottom of the pile as I need them. By the end of the workout, they are all scattered around the floor. I’d love to have a nice neat way to stack them (although, let’s be honest, they’d probably still end up scattered because that’s just who I am LOL.)

More weights *- I need a 25 pound weight. Seriously. This one is actually a need because I’m no longer challenged for certain exercises. I’d also like a set or two that fall between my 12 pound set and my 20 pound set. 8 pounds is a really big difference if you are trying to go up in weight! I know that there are sets out there that offer adjustability, but that just seems like a pain in the butt to me.

Real weight lifting gloves *- My workout room is a converted screen porch. It’s warmer than being outside, but we don’t turn the heat on in there unless we are actually using it. Mostly this is fine, but it does mean that my metal weights are COLD in the winter. (It was 32* in there the other day when I went to turn on the heat!) I mean, my gardening gloves are cute and all, but not exactly designed for lifting.

A Mirror – This may be last on my list, but I think it might be the first thing I purchase. While I do have a couple of full length mirrors in the house, neither of them is particularly useful for taking pictures. More importantly, I have no way of checking my form. As the weights I use get heavier, it’s going to become even more important to do the exercises right and not having a wall mirror in my workout room makes that a challenge. And maybe that would end my fun pictures like this…

Even without the above things, just having the fitness room organized and having Amanda’s workout plan to guide me, has made a huge difference in my ability to cross train. I’m feeling stronger and my clothes are looser, so I’m considering it a huge win.

If you had an unlimited budget (and space LOL), what would be on your fitness wishlist?

I’m joining Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness  for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup!

LOL on the gardening gloves. Since I don’t garden much, that might be a better use for mine!

I want a Bosu!!!!! And more hand weights (but, like you, the ones I have are sufficient). I love your bathtub pic!! I have thought of getting three inexpensive full length mirrors, but mounting them all side-by-side…..less of a hassle than a big mirror and more transportable.

I’m building up my gym too. I do need a weight bench, because I’m using my stability ball, which isn’t stable, and there’s only one angle I can use. I hadn’t thought of a mirror, but it could be an option. I don’t realize what I want until I want it.

I don’t need a budget, I need a dumpster. My workout room is also the back room/catch all room and there is so much crap in there. My husband won’t part with an old chair bc his mother gave it to us…

I think I’d go for an indoor pool. Then I’d have no excuse not to swim.

I dream of having a mirror wall, like in a fitness studio, for my at-home workouts. It would be so helpful for yoga and weight training!

I’m jealous of your fitness room! I’d love to have one room in the house dedicated to working out. I also really want to get some kettlebells. I’ve been really into using them for workouts but don’t always want to have to go to the gym to have access.

I have always wanted a BOSU ball, but heck I’d probably wouldn’t even use it as much as I think I would. I got a barbell with adjusted weights for Christmas and I use that all the time!

Great list! *-* I have all kinds of plans for my future home gym, haha. I want mirror walls (kinda like in a dance studio) + a squat rack!

The gardening gloves are killing me! Lol By the way, you look great!!!! Congratulations! I’ve heard great things about this ‘Faster way to weight loss’ and it looks like you are having success! If I had unlimited space and funds ….I’d buy a rower… that’s my latest obsession! 🙂

    space and budget?
I’d have a treadmill to start. Then I’d have a spin bike or just a race trainer. I’d also have a bosu ball, a bench, mirror and weights organiser! I’d have an excellent stereo system set up too. and then I’d also have enough space set up for the massage table and necessities so that (after of course my husband does a basic course) I could directly hop on the table for a swifter recovery.

guess I’ll just have to deal with the exercise bike in one room (with the laundry) and weights all over the place (with all the foam rollers everywhere 😀 )

Such a great wishlist! I’m pretty much starting from scratch since our move so I need most of these items. If I had to add anything it would be a Bosu Ball.

I would totally convert our garage to a workout center!
I have a few items I use to practice for teaching my classes, but I would love more weights and a bench for sure!

Get yourself some lifting gloves! Mountain biking gloves with gel pads provide better padding and protection for your hands than any lifting glove– check it out, especially if you have any tendonitis or gripping problem from lifting.

My husband and I really want to add a rack of free weights to our small home fitness collection. We found a set that we like, we just need to pull the trigger on purchasing them.

Coffee with a side of rain

Coffee with a side of rain

Apparently I only write coffee posts when I’m in Michigan. I guess my body is hard wired to wake up early, but the college kid has no interest in an early wakeup call. I’d run, but it’s raining and I did not bring the right running clothes, so here I sit. I’m joining Deb and […]
