5 for Friday: Off to the Races!

March 14, 2014 by MCM Mama 19 Comments

OK, the first one is kind of a big deal!

Lucky-13-giveaway

I’m racing 13 half marathons in less than 12 weeks. I start tomorrow with RNR USA and finish with ZOOMA Annapolis on May 31.  After each race, I will do a giveaway.

That’s right: 13 races, 13 giveways.

If you’ve heard me talk about loving it, I’ve tried to get it for you.  Think compression, hydration, shoes, skirt…  13 awesome items that I love.  13 is my lucky number and I’m making it your lucky number too!

2. Yesterday I worked the ZOOMA booth at the RNR USA expo.  I’ll be there again today.  I’ll let you in on a secret: if you come to the expo and sign up, we’ll give you a discount on the race AND a shirt like the one I’m wearing below.  Can’t make it there and want to run ZOOMA Annapolis?  Use code AnnaMB8 for 10% off. It’s good until late May.

3. Saturday kicks off my quest for Venus when I run the RNR USA half marathon.  The weather is looking pretty good (way better than the nasty cold and windy day we had on Thursday!)  But I’m having wardrobe issues.  I had my outfit planned but the podiatrist recommended I wear my Altra Running shoes instead of the shoes I was considering.  Problem?  They clash horribly with the green socks I was planning to wear.  Do you care if your shoes match or clash? Would you wear hot pink shoes and lime green socks?

4. Assuming I survive the race, Jones’ District Assessment with his school orchestra, and the school auction on Saturday night, join me for a post RNR twitter chat.  I’ll be co-hosting with Deborah of Confessions of a Mother Runner and Erin of Run with Erin.

Here are the deets:

DATE: Sunday, March 16, 2014

TIME: 8-9 pm ET

HASHTAG: Use #RnRMoms to follow along. Or, use this Twubs grid. For all race-specific news and details, follow #RnRUSA.

HOSTS: Follow the Twitter Party hosts, including Erin (@RunWithErin), Deborah (@DeborahBrooks14) and me (@MCMMama). You may also want to follow @RunRocknRoll for all the scoop on upcoming Rock ‘n’ Roll races.

PRIZES: Super swag, like compression socks from Crazy Compression, a thin band from Sweaty Bands, a gym girl ultra skirt from Skirt Sports and a $25 gift certificate to spend on running jewelry at The Rusted Chain.

5. Next weekend, I’m running the Caesar Rodney Half Marathon in Delaware.  This will be my second time running this race. Last time I ran it, I went sub 2 for the first time.  Barely sub-2 1:59:xx, but sub-2 nonetheless.  I won’t be anywhere near there this time.  Ah, well, speed is over-rated. ;o) I’d like to say I have a goal time, but umm, like RNR, my current goal is to finish, preferably with a smile on my face.

Come back early next week for the 1st giveaway!!!!

Woot woot! I hear you about clashing — I’m concerned because I have calf sleeves (with Shamrocks on them, obvi) and if it’s too chilly and I have to wear my capris, it won’t look right! LOL – runner probs! Have a good race 🙂

Hot pink shoes are awesome, no matter what they are paired with. (Note: Dear Saucony, please make the Guide 7s in hot pink like the Guide 5s. I promise to buy at least 3 pairs to stock up this time).

Is it bad that I worry about my race bib clashing with my outfit? I took two different outfits to Disney for my first half back in January and chose my outfit based on which looked best with the bib.
