I knew today’s 10K would not be a PR before I even put on my shoes. (I know, shoot high, right?) My legs are still tired from the marathon, it was warm out, and I *may* have overindulged a bit last night. I set out with the following goals: C – Finish; B- Keep each mile under 10, and A – Finish the 10K under an hour.
I dressed in my “Rock Your Socks” outfit and got ready to head out…
What? Do you think TMB is cringing? Ok, even I wouldn’t go out of the house dressed like that. (Sadly, on the computer, it’s not nearly as obvious that my shirt is hot pink, my shorts are orange, and my shoes are red LOL.)
So I changed into a different outfit. Honestly, I’m still not sure I “matched”, but I think it’s a little better, right? Yes, I bought those socks just for today and yes, Shoo wore them yesterday.
Surprisingly, I hit all three goals and finished in 59:45 and I was only cursing TMB a little bit. My legs hurt by mile 4 and I was completely soaked in sweat. The last two miles were a battle every.step.of.the.way. (How on earth did RunningLaur manage an ultra last night? I haven’t even tried for double digits since the marathon.)
Oh, well. I survived, I got my weekend run out of the way, and I passed 600 miles for 2010. Thanks for organizing the race and getting me out there!
I also don’t know how TMB wears knee high socks. This is what mine looked like by the end (because I was hot, not because they fell down).
Here’s hoping I can get some speed back before I meet up with TMB at the Crossroads 17.75k or she’ll be leaving me in the dust!
Cute socks!!!I get so hot when I run! I am going to do my virtual half tomorrow and its going to be a sweaty one!!600…That is some serious mileage!!! Love it!
i would have fully supported you running in the first outfit, maybe even started a petition for a most colorful outfit award. however the socks you did decide on were super cute and congrats on racking up all those miles. ๐
OK I FREAKED when I saw the first outfit…I am a matchy matchy girl.. Loved the second outfit.. Way to get out there and get it done.I love the look of the socks but yes they get hot and the tan lines in the summer ugh!
You almost had me there :)Cute socks and great job on reaching all your goals!!
i love the virtual same stance in both pics;-)and yah, i can't run i knee highs either! even in compression style knee highs
You totally should have rocked the first outfit! It was running hot! Nice job out there. YOU JUST ran a marathon woman – you rocked the 10K!!!!! Nice work!
Lol, I like outfit # 2 much better! Great job on reaching ur goal and confrats on 600 miles!! That's awesome. You look really tall in thos pics
I was cringing at the first outfit. I thought it was all red though. Now that I know the colors, I am cringing even more. Love the second combo though! Can't wait until the 17.75K!
600+ miles, congrats! You must have a separate closet for your running stuff?
Yeah, I'm not sure I could rock the tall socks on a run either, I have a hard enough time with just regular socks!funny pics!
I actually liked the pink, orange, green, and red look . . . Nice job on the run, and on 600 miles!
I'm with you on the knee socks. I couldn't even try. I wore my usual short socks.
I like the green socks! Are those compression socks? I heard a lot about those socks. do you think they are helpful?
Matching clothes can be overrated! ๐ Congrats on your 10K. I wish I can run in knee highs- looks cute.
I liked your first outfit too:) I most likely would of gone with the second. If you ran with the first one people would for sure remember you!! I might have to run at least one race this year with a bright colored crazy outfit. Nice job on your 10K! You did great! You ran a race so soon after your marathon…impressive:) It is so hot and sticky here! Yuck, I hate this humid weather. I cut my lawn this morning and I was sweating buckets:)
Great job on your 10K. I was dying out there today for 12K… more of a slog. Ugh!
Loved that first look–you should've gone out the door that way! Hey, I'm impressed you could run that far/fast right after a marathon. I am always a slow wimp in recovery mode at that point. And the humidity was brutal yesterday!
great Job!! It is so hot and humid this weekend!
Definitely steal that poster thank you. That is partly why I posted it.
I love the socks! Totally forgot to wear them for mine… Great job on the run : )
Congrats on the 600 miles and the virtual race – pretty sure I couldn't go do a 10k right now. The socks are super cute too – they'd be fun to keep you warm at volunteer water stations!
Love the outfits! So funny!I ditched the socks. With calves like mine, knee socks are very too tight to wear for long. Big calved that's what years of teaching step areobics and squatting free weights did for me.Nice race!
Way to go!Ok, so I didn't think the first outfit was all that bad. Hmmm…Kudos for you for rocking those knee high socks! I would have itched the whole time!
I saw nothing wrong with the first outfit? *shrugs*Way to hit ALL the goals!
Love the socks! Nice job!
I think I remember you making a previous comment about buying the majority of your running clothes on clearance racks…I'm probably worse than you. I run in cotton t-shirts… (College Teams, Surf shops, previous race T's, funny sayings) and little shorts the majority of the time. I only wear true running gear in races. Maybe it's because of High School PE but I'm just more comfortable running in T-shirts. Unless it was freezing cold outside I doubt I'd make it very far in knee socks.Great job doing this so close to your marathon! Nice time! Fun socks ๐
