Anne over at Asthma and the Gift of Running tagged me for the Versatile Blogger Award.
I’m supposed to tell you 7 fun things about me.
1. I have a mild case of amblyopia (AKA “lazy eye”). To strengthen the weaker eye, I wore a patch for a short time in grade school. On school picture day, I happened to have it on and the photographer refused to let me take it off (I think he was worried about what was under the patch LOL), so I’m wearing a patch in that year’s school picture. I still give my mom a hard time about how “traumatic” that was for me. ;o)
2. When I was a freshman in high school, I played volleyball on a club team. As part of our conditioning workout, we used to push cars. There was a point in time that my legs were so strong I could push a small car by myself. Best.leg.workout.ever.
3. If I don’t write it down, it didn’t happen. I remember things by writing them down. If I write it down, I can pull up a mental picture of the page and “read” what I wrote. Needless to say, my notes during college and grad school were quite detailed.
4. I have a horrible time remember names, but I’ll always remember your face. If I see someone regularly (at the store or on the metro, etc.) and then see them randomly somewhere else, it causes me a lot of confusion because I’ll recognize their face and not be able to remember their name. It always takes me a while to realize that I never knew their name in the first place.
5. My bridal shower was thrown by one of Beer Geek’s groomsmen. As such, it was co-ed and involved an interesting combination of college friends and library students (I was working on my Masters in Library Science at the time). One of the (male) librarians came in a boa. Several people brought pies. The event will forever be remembered as “Librarians with Pies”. The coolest part, though, is that the guy throwing the shower met one of my library friends and they will shortly be celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary. (Happy anniversary, J &J!)
6. The thing I miss most about working outside the home is wearing pretty shoes. I have a huge collection of dressy shoes, including 10 pairs of black heels. Yes, 10. No, that does not include any other color or boots or casual shoes. Now I pretty much only wear running shoes or comfortable shoes. Why? Because as a mom of boys, I always need to be prepared to rescue a kid from the top of the playground equipment or wade into a stream to retrieve a kid or ball.
7. As an undergraduate, I planned to get my degree in Russian Studies. In fact, the availability of this degree played a major role in my choice of universities. In my second semester of college, I got a D+ in Russian (and I’m pretty sure the TA was being generous). I could not learn the language, no matter how hard I tried. Needless to say, I changed majors pretty darn quick.
I’m supposed to tag 15 people, but I’m dealing with a kid with strep and about 5,000 minor things going on. If you are a new follower, consider yourself tagged and leave me a comment with the link to your 7 things and I’ll add you later.
Did someone say "pie?"
Workouts like pushing a car on your own sure are memorable! Are you going to pick it back up to teach the boys to drive nice and slowly one day? π
I can relate to remembering faces but forgetting names as well π
ha! That's a great list! I had delusions of smartness in University and thought it would be *great* to take Latin for my Classics requirement (you know, instead of taking the general Classics course that EVERYONE ELSE TAKES)…scraped by on that one with about a 54% (lol) And I think the TA was being generous there too π
I can never remember names. It can make things a bit awkward at times π
ok #2 … I almost wrote that same thing in my list today. Instead I wrote about my bench pressing abilities. We always had to push a car around the parking lot – 2x a week! I never heard of anyone else doing that!
OK #7 makes me laugh because as a Freshman I wanted to major in Science…I had visions of lab coats and finding the Cure for Cancer… I do not have a science brain and quickly had to drop out of Biology and Chemistry in order to stay elligible to play basketball.. I graduated with a segree in Communications. LOL!!
I own TONS of cute shoes too, but sadly spend most of my time in sneakers.
Our kettlebell teacher was having us push cars last week. I bowed out . . . 10 days before a marathon no time to start pushing somebody's beat up Geo Metro around a field. π
Strep just visited our house too!I love the sound of your shower. And wow–pushing cars? You need to send that idea of Jillian Michaels. Thanks for sharing.
ok I feel soooo left oout. I was on a jr olympic club team too but we didn't GET to push cars!!
Pushing cars? That's crazy!Great list. Sorry to hear you have a sickie. I hope he's better soon.
I'm the same way about writing things down. It's why I always went to class–much easier to just take notes and never have to study later π
Totally agree on the shoes thing. I've been debating selling some of my nicer, more expensive pairs on ebay. It seems like such a waste to have them sitting in my closet!
I'm terrible with names too! If someone oculd be "good" at forgetting names, I'd be the champ. :o)
Your shower sounds like it was fun :)I had to finally give a few pairs of cute shoes to my sister, because seeing them unused in my closet made me so sad!Hope your guys are feeling better!
Ugh – we have strep again in our house, too.Sounds like an awesome shower!
I am totally addicted to shoes! I rarely wear them, but my girls love to wear them around the house π And I also love pie π what a perfect bridal shower!!
I have to write things down to remember things too. Back when I was in uni ( yes, they had uni THAT long ago) I could see in my head where information was on my notes but sometimes I couldn't make out the finer details.
Any old pictures of yourself pushing a car? Those would be great to see!
This was a great post; I love this award, you learn so much about people! A small car? Remind me to never make you mad! That's awesome!I would give up ALL of my cute shoes, and clothes, if I didn't have to work in corporate America!
Just goes to show you . . . everything they say about librarians is true . . . sorry your kiddo has strep. Fighting an infection is NO fun.
Great pictures of you and the boys!!I'm the same way w/ rememberig names and faces.
Wow, you pushed a car? Strong legs there Lady!I am getting terrible at remembering names too! I used to be good at it in high school and in my 20's…not so much anymore. The older I get the less I remember and it sucks:)It sounds like you and the beer geek had a nice shower…I like the idea of having it co-ed:)
Had to chuckle at being ready to climb the playground or wade into the stream. Ohh, the life of a Mom (with boys).Have a great day!
i totally SUCK at names too, I've been trying to repeat people's names when I meet them to help..not so much
I love this list…a lot of fun facts. Your bridal shower sounds great! What a great story about J and J, too. In college, some people on my team had to push a car for cross-training. I thought it was hilarious, but it sure looked like an excellent workout.
I'm with Jamoosh, where is this pie you speak of?
What types of pies did they bring?
