I could really use the combined positive thoughts of all my RBFs to ensure that Monday’s snow is a non-event and the kids go back to school on Tuesday. Really!
I’m ready to have my “normal” schedule back. Shoo isn’t in school for many hours a week, but I use that time to do my long runs and any errands that I prefer to do without kids. (Hello, Mama NEEDS a haircut!) While it has been nice having Beer Geek around more, I feel guilty asking him to watch the kids while I run, go to the grocery store, do other errands, AND have some quiet time. It’s not him, it’s me. He’s actually very good about giving me the time, I just hate asking for it.
We don’t celebrate Valentine’s day. In fact, we usually avoid going out the weekend nearest the holiday because we are not big fans of crowds. However, yesterday our babysitter called and said she could watch the kids. We were all over that. After more than a week with the kids, we both needed a break. We headed over to Clarendon, figuring we’d try Harry’s, but settle for any place we could get a meal. Thankfully, Harry’s has a very nice bar area that’s self-seating and most people actually had reservations last night, so we got a table near the bar and had a FABULOUS meal! I went a little crazy and had 2! Dark Starr Stouts and a Hot Nutty Irishman (coffee with baileys and frangelico).
I also got outside for a run yesterday. Four “fast” miles in the sunshine. The actual time spent running was at a good pace, but I had lots of stops to walk over ice and to step off the one lane roads to let cars pass. The roads around here are ok, but often stop suddenly in a mess of snow or big puddles. I also spent a couple of hours on “Operation Find the Azaleas”, which involved a lot of shoveling with Shoo’s Little Tikes shovel so as not to damage the bushes any more than they already were.
Thanks to dinner and the run, I think I might actually survive Snomageddon, but I am so ready for my regularly scheduled life to return.
I have got to get over to Clarendon some evening to see the food scene. I lived at Nelson and Washington when I was in grad school, and the best we had then (in the late 70's) was an IHOP. I agree that the snow MUST END! lol. And BGeek is no doubt very happy to give you your time, don't keep him from being the great hubbie.

I feel for you…the longest my kids were home from school was in 1998 when we had the big ice storm…21 days no electricity and 5 weeks no school…and this was less than a week after christmas break!!! …and when we talk about this, the kids all talk about what a great time they had (playing board games – skating just about anywhere outside), no one missed not having electricity…except us parents 🙂 (just so you know we had a wood stove)

OMG. I am reading Anne's comment and I am amazed. We had that ice storm too but we were without for maybe 4 or 5 and I complained majorly! Let's hope your kids get back to school. Myself………..I have school for 5 days and then it is vacation……………! Yeah! Two night events this week though, they are making me work for my salary this week!

Ugh. Could you imagine if we got more snow? The Capital Weather Gang is assuring me it will only be 1-4 inches. I'm loving the sunshine today, but I keep expecting it to be much warmer–and then I step outside and a gust of icy wind hits. Awesome.

totally agree! Even my little ones are ready, My 3 year old is dying to go back to "school" which is only two days a week for two hours but she is up in arms if you even mention snow! They are beginning to wonder if they will ever see their friends again!

I was happy for a while to not have to rush in the morning & not make lunches. I'm over the kiddos being underfoot all the time though.

Girl, my positive thoughts are heading your way. I'm hoping we don't get any either. Our county has taken away the Presidents' holiday tomorrow so that we can make up one of our days. I don't want miss making up a day in the cold, cause I don't want to make them up in the spring. So glad your babysitter called to give you some time, though. That's awesome!
