In some ways, this day was just like any other weekday. In some ways, it was totally different from normal. And in a few ways, it was rockin’ awesome.
6:05 am – Wake up. I am so ready for the school break purely because I’m tired of getting up early. I’m looking forward to a week and a half of sleeping in. Nevermind that sleeping in will mean getting up around 8 am. That’s still extra sleep.
6:15am – Ahh, the sweet elixir of life – coffee! I admit, I’m fully addicted to a cup with a splash of milk every morning. I also grab a banana because I’m hungry and I’m supposed to eat three food groups with each meal today for Elf for Health. I take both to my computer to check my credit card accounts – a habit I got into this summer when we had an account hijacked.
Then the craziness begins. Jones gets up, eats, gets ready, and is out the door. I have a breather for a few minutes to check the work bank accounts. Then it’s time to get Shoo up, fed, and to school.
Finally. Quiet. Beer Geek is even at his downtown office for once, so I have the house to myself. Not that I really have time to enjoy it. I eat the rest of my breakfast (eggs, cheese, mushrooms, onions, kale – Woot! hit 3 food groups), throw a load of laundry in, and head out to meet friends for a run.
6 awesome miles with a friend whose pace/stride match mine perfectly! That bad mood I woke up with? Gone.
Now it’s shopping time. With school almost out for the break, I’ve got to finish things up. But first, I stop at my favorite beer store, where I buy a ridiculous amount of seasonal beers. Yum!
Next up: Target. Not my favorite store, but I need bread, hot chocolate, and a gift card. $95 later… (how does that happen?)
12:30pm – Back home for lunch, I’m STARVING, so I grab an apple and some nuts while I unload the car and put things away. Finally, I get my soup heated up (definitely hit my 3 food groups!) and sit at my computer cleaning out emails and playing on Facebook while I eat.
1:00pm – Time to work. Theoretically, I work from now until I pick up Jones, but in reality, I stop my timer to switch loads of laundry and to clean up the kitchen. I’m feeling a little too scattered these days.
Then it’s time to reverse the morning: Jones pick up, then Shoo pick up, then back to the house. The boys run around in the beautiful weather until it starts getting dark and then they head down to the basement Wii U. I try to get some more work done, but am only marginally successful as I keep getting distracted with Christmas cards, cleaning, and the noises from the boys downstairs. Finally, Beer Geek arrives home (later than usual) and I throw leftover vegetable beef soup on the table for dinner. Yay, lots of food groups!
Then it’s the normal homework, bathtime, reading chaos – with a twist. We are fostering a cat for the holidays, so we need to set up the kitty litter and food.
6:30pm – Ella arrives. Any hope of getting the boys to accomplish anything productive goes out the widow, sigh. I do manage to shepherd them through their nightly routines so that Shoo is done and hanging out with Ella by 9pm.
Meanwhile, I try to bake Applesauce Bread for the teachers, while Jones finishes writing for his Orchestra class. Eventually, the bread and the paper are done.
9:15pm – Finally! Time for the shower I’ve needed pretty much all day. Ahhh…
9:30pm – Shoo and Beer Geek head off to sleep. Ella gets relegated to the basement (it’s finished, it’s not a bad place to be. And she’s a climber – a bad combination with a gecko) and I set up the coffee, make Jones’ lunch, and straighten up for the next day.
10:30pm – Jones finishes up his book and heads to bed. I sit on the couch, contemplating finishing teacher gifts, working, packing up gifts that need to be mailed… Instead, I find myself mindlessly surfing the ‘net as I’m too tired to do anything productive.
11:15pm – I realize I’m not actually accomplishing anything and head to bed. All the unfinished stuff will have to wait for the next day.

Coffee is my exilir too! Sounds like you are busy! I am thankful that running keeps me sane on those busy days! Happy Holidays!
I’m so glad you found MRTT 🙂
Sounds like a perfectly chaotic mix of work, running, and family!!!
You had me at school break and coffee!! I love the glimpse of everyone’s lives.
Winter break starts today! Woohoo!
Reading this makes me so glad that school finishes up a couple of weeks before Christmas here. Having school to deal with so close to Christmas just adds a whole new level of insanity.
Target is not your favorite store? Don’t think we can be friends at all. 🙂
