A lovely four mile swim run

June 29, 2010 by MCM Mama 29 Comments

I’m a bit behind in my 100 miles a month goal, thanks to skipping my run on Sunday in a favor of a trip to the pediatrician’s office, followed by a few beers with Jamoosh.  ;o) At the start of the week, I think I needed about 13 more miles.  On Monday,  I only had a couple of hours while the kids were in camp and I had a few errands to run, so I planned to hit the treadmill when Beer Geek got home.   It’s just been too hot lately at 4:30pm to run outside.

Around 3:00, suddenly the sky got very dark and the clouds opened up.  We got an inch of rain in about 15 minutes.  The boys were freaking out because of the wind and the thunder and lightening, but we didn’t lose power or any tree branches and it ended fairly quickly.  I hopped on the local station’s weather site and discovered the temperature had dropped 15 degrees.  Woohoo!  Time for an outside run.
Oh.my.goodness.  I should have just gone for a swim.  You could practically see the steam rising up from the hot cement.  I was drenched almost instantly and by the time I got home, you could have wrung water out of my hair.  My shirt (a white technical t) clung to me like I was participating in a wet t-shirt contest (the black running bra underneath and my decided lack of cleavage made it much more G rated than that however).
On the bright side, it was a fast four miles and I got it done, despite the humidity.  The rest of the week should be great with highs in the 80s and lower humidity.  I’m going to be loving that!

Black bra and white shirt is totally in right now. All Madonna retro, or so I surmise from people in Nerdtown these days.

Such a little teaser T-storm by the time it got here. I still had to water my plants, AND it's still a sauna around here. I guess we'll have to hit the beach today ๐Ÿ˜‰

It is steamy, that's for sure! My sunglasses fogged over just by virtue of stepping outside yesterday. As much as I love the heat, I am looking forward to our little humidity break this week.

Sometimes, in the summer, it's either ROCK (heat) or HARD PLACE (humidity). Still, congrats on getting it done!

All my windows fogged up, and a bunch of trees fell over. Also, an electricity wire was cut and my street was closed for 2 hours. OH BOY! Glad you had a nice but soupy run!

Sounds like a fun run! I love getting drenched during a run. I am looking forward to the temps lowering a hair this week. Temps in the 80's are going to feel like fall after the past two weeks!

Err.. good to hear that the black bra/white shirt is "in"… that's a combo that only happens for me when I need to wash another load of whites. I'll rock that look with confidence now ๐Ÿ™‚

That kind-of weather is just unheard of here! Crazy! And you, my friend, are a rockstar for going out and getting it done! Next time, just ditch the white shirt – you don't need it! (But, that's coming from me, who NEVER wears a shirt when I run- I just get too hot!)

As the saying goes: "It's not the heat, it's the humidity." And boy is it! Maybe we'll miss these sauna conditions come January?

We need a little sun and humidity here, maybe not THAT much but at least a little! I'm so impressed that you stick it out, running in that kind of weather. You're tough!

Yikes! Way to go for getting out for your run outside. Think of how easy that next one is going to be with the humidity dropping! You'll get those last 9 miles in for sure!

Way to get out there and get it done! As for the white shirt, black bra – that is very Lady Gagaish!Bummer about the strep again. We really dislike that word in our house this year. We're going to try ACV and elderberry next winter and see if that helps keep it away from us.
