Once again, I’m joining some other bloggers to share a “Day in the Life”. I’ve done a few of these before. I’ve shared a typical school day, a day near the holidays, and a Friday complete with volunteering at Shoo’s school.
Since there is no such thing as a typical day for us in the summer, I chose to grab pics of last Saturday. I had a feeling it was going to be crazy and I was right.
5am: Yes, I woke up at 5am on a Saturday. Why? Marathon Training. Thanks to the squirrel digging in my attic (I think it’s finally gone now!), I moved to the couch in the middle of the night, which meant crickets and the cat kept me from sleeping soundly. I really was not happy to get up, but I managed to drag myself up and grabbed an almond butter sandwich while I wandered around in a daze trying to get ready to run.
6:15am: Finally got it all together and headed out. Beer Geek was home, so I took advantage of that and ran farther away from home than normal. Unfortunately, that means hills. Ugh. 12 miles later, I walked back in the door with just enough time to get ready for Jones’ volunteer gig. Thank goodness for cold showers.
9am: Jones and I went to the local Petsmart and spent the next hour cleaning cages and playing with the rescue cats that would be going up for adoption. It was all kittens this time, so it made for a fun, if somewhat crazy time.
10am: We picked up some crickets while at Petsmart and headed home. I spend the next bit of time feeding the gecko and cleaning its cage.
11:am: Beer Geek headed off on a bike ride with my boss. They were meeting some friends for lunch at a brewpub and riding out to Caboose Brewing, where we would meet them.
Noon: I grabbed a quick lunch of a turkey patty and kohlrabi. Yum!
Then I wrote a quick blog post because it was the first Saturday of the month. Finally, we got the text from Beer Geek that they were on the way to Caboose.
3:00: Despite wicked traffic, we finally made it out to Caboose. The beers were tasty!
Then the guys headed to Mad Fox on their bikes and the kids and I drove there. Thanks to Saturday traffic, we barely beat them there!
4:30: We enjoyed a beer with everyone and then Beer Geek and my boss headed out on bikes back to our house and the boys and I drove home.
6:00: When they got back, we had a quick dinner of leftovers and then headed outside to enjoy one of the few days in a while where the heat and humidity were reasonable and it did not suck to be outside.
7:00: While Beer Geek and I enjoy our beers, Shoo and my boss played soccer on our back patio. One of the downsides of living in an urban area is we have a tiny yard, so I was practically sitting in the soccer game while I drank my beer. Finally, darkness and one too many balls into the neighbors yard shut down the soccer game. We continued to hang out until close to midnight.
Midnight: Finally got Shoo in bed and crashed as well, with a plan to sleep in the next morning. (Spoiler: the squirrel woke me up at 6am.)
Did you have a fun Saturday? Being an extrovert, I love weekends that involve time with friends, even if I don’t get enough sleep.
Sounds like a busy Saturday but looks like you got a lot accomplished before noon! I love those days. It’s nice that your boss has such a good relationship with your family!
I clicked over thinking: I would love to spend the day with you!!!!
I could do the up at 5 AM but you would lose me long before midnight 🙂
you have really become an early morning runner!
What a fun day you had! Sounds so busy but so awesome!
FUN! I love all the bike riding! My family loves to ride!
I love that your Saturday’s involve so much beer!
I have to admit, I’m pretty jealous you are within biking distance of a brewpub 😉 Sounds like a fun day!
