You know those commercials with the Energizer bunny? He just “keeps going and going”… There’s no claim that he goes fast or that he looks spectacular while doing it, just that he will keep going and going.
Today’s run was a lot like that. My legs had no bounce and I was kind of hungry. All I’d had to eat was the crust from Shoo’s PB&J. I meant to eat breakfast after school drop off, but got busy and forgot. Then I decided to run and didn’t want to wait for a meal to digest. I headed out with the plan to run 4.3 miles (my shortest run for the week.)
9 miles and one Cliff Shot later, I got back home. Around the two mile point, I’d settled into a groove and just kept going. I wasn’t fast, but I was right in my goal range. I didn’t think “oh, this is an amazing run.” It wasn’t. But it was just a steady, “I can keep going” kind of run.
Longest run since April. Woot!
State of the 5in5 training:
Last week I did five runs: 5, 5, 5.3, 8.5, and 3.7. All of the five mile runs felt somewhere between awesome and really good. I think that’s my sweetspot distance right now. The 8.5 mile run was unpleasant, but some (a lot?) of that was mental. The 3.7 miles run I was just happy to get done. It was a treadmill run after getting up at 4am. I watched Bridezilla while I ran (awful show) and I had already taken out my contacts, so I was driven crazy by my glasses sliding down my face. But I got it done for a total of 27.5 miles last week!
Now I need to grab a shower. I’m just psyched that my long run is done for the week.
HBBC points: 9 so far today
I hope that when I get home from work I can pick up some of that Energizer Bunny mojo.
Congrats on your long run!
Nice to get the long run done already! And Whoot for 9 points!
Nice job building back up! I’m doing HBBC, too… loved having that extra motivation last year.
9 miles is great! Wasn’t it just last week that you were bemoaning your loss of long run mojo?! Looks like you’re heading in the right direction.
Awesome distance!! Sounds much better than last week!
