By the time you read this, I’ll be at least partway through the first half marathon of the week.
Our trip to Denver went mostly smoothly. We had a really full flight, so I ended up gate checking the bag with my running shoes and then spent the whole flight worried that I wouldn’t be reunited with them. (Note to self: never again part with the running shoes voluntarily.)
We landed in Denver right on time, got our luggage (Yay! Shoes!), got our rental and headed to our friends’ house. We then proceeded to go out lunch where I had a margarita. Mile high + slightly dehydrated + strong margarita? Not my smartest move ever.
Sunday morning we got up early and had breakfast with our friends. Then we hit the road for the 6 hour drive to Dalhart, TX. AKA the drive through the middle of nowhere.
Seriously. It was a whole lot of empty. As Beer Geek said “there’s not a whole lot of “here” here.”
And our entrance into Dalhart for the first race in the Dust Bowl Series included a dust storm. How apropos.
After a quick packet pickup, a quick dinner, and the purchase of a small flashlight (do you have any idea how dark it gets out here???), we headed to the hotel where I set out every possible item I might need for the race.
And focused on relaxing and hydrating.
I hope the race was great!!
Dalhart is part of my old stomping ground. I went to college in Plainview and ran with dust, wind in every direction and tumbleweeds every day!
Just think – 1 down (4 to go…)!!!
I am sure it’s going to be an exciting week. enjoy it all.
I hope the first one went all according to plan. This is awesome! All the best for the week!
I have been through that region, and it is desolate! Literal tumbleweeds to contend with!
Enjoy the series and have fun!
And so it begins. I hope you have some really great, interesting, pain-free races. And I hope you get to keep us up to date as things go along.
Good luck this week! Hope it goes great and you have a lot of fun!
Yay!! You’re finally here! Good luck! I’m so excited to hear all the details!!!
