I may have mentioned a hundred few times that I’ve been having issues with my toes/feet lately. It doesn’t seem to matter which pair of shoes I wear (and I have everything from Saucony Triumphs to Newton Gravitas to Brooks Pure Connects and I switch regularly). At about the two mile point in any run, the ball of my right foot starts hurting and then the bottoms of my toes start to hurt. The pain doesn’t really change my gait and it goes away immediately upon finishing the run. But, I’ve got to tell you, running 9 miles with pain in the front of my foot (and it is pain, not just discomfort), really sucked.
So, I tried an experiment. I don’t seem to have the pain when I run barefoot on the treadmill, so I’m pretty sure my problem is my toes don’t splay enough in the shoes.
Today I ran 3.7 miles in 25 degree weather in my Vibrams with Injinji socks. My toes were darned cold, but there was no pain anywhere! Sweet! Now if I can just keep my achilles and calf and toes all happy at the same time LOL.
I always ask people about their Vibrams and they all seem to love them! Yay for happy feet!

Those have got to be the funniest looking running shoes I have ever seen, but hey, if they keep the pain away then I would be wearing them too! I'm glad you were able to get some relief.

I've seen a bunch of people with these and have always wondered about this. Thanks for sharing.

I've looked at people wearing those Vibrams, but I'm not ready to try them just yet. Keep posting about how it is to run in them. Maybe one day I'll buy a pair. http://www.dashingdiva.net

Interesting! I'm glad you figured it out. I tend to get a bit of a neuroma in one foot and I wonder if it doesn't have to do w/ lack of toe splay also.

Glad it's working for you! I find walking around the house in my Vibrams makes a big difference in how my feet feel, but I haven't tried running in them yet.

I've always wondered about wearing those.. I need to make a trek to a real running store and see how they feel.

Now if we could somehow work out how to heat them they'd be perfect. Glad you found a solution.

foal roll the crap out of them and lots of toe raises and calf stretches was what helped me. Pain free runs are my goal this year!
