I apparently should run my races in Wisconsin. I’ve been really running well here. Not sure if it’s because it’s cooler out or there are fewer hills or what, but I’ve been having some nice runs. Today was an 8 mile run. I did the same loop I did earlier in the visit, but in the opposite direction. I think it was harder that way. There are some steep, short hills coming the original direction, but when you reverse it, there are a lot of long, slow inclines. You can’t just power up those LOL. I finished the run in 1:18:37, which is an average of a 9:50 pace again.
After my run, I decided to do a version of the “ice bath” that everyone is recommending these days. I jumped into my parents’ above ground pool. It wasn’t quite as cold as a bathtub with ice, but it was definitely chilly. My legs were a bit sore when I got in, but they feel great now. My mom was a bit surprised to see me in soaking wet running clothes (since it’s not THAT hot here) until I told her I’d visited the pool on my way in LOL.
In my continuing search for the exact clothes/supplement combination for the marathon, I tried on a bunch of running skirts yesterday. I have come to the conclusion that those just aren’t gonna work for me. (What can I say, “baby got back” LOL) I did manage to score some technical t-shirts from the boy’s clearance rack for about $5 each. I also tried a Clif Shot gel today and while it didn’t mess up my insides like the shot blocks, I hated the taste. I’ll try another flavor later, but I’m thinking I’ll just be packing Gu to get me through.
Now I’m off to get the massage my parents’ gave me as a birthday present. Woohoo!
