Last week, I took a complete and total break from two things: 1) running and 2) wearing shoes other than athletic shoes. (I also took a break from sleeping, but that’s unrelated). The top of my right foot, which was nearly healed, had gotten completely tweaked from wearing low heeled boots for approximately 4 miles of walking. Oddly, they didn’t hurt at the time, but on Monday I was limping. So, I had to find a shoe that didn’t hurt and some other activities to do.
Enter the Asics Gel-Fit Sana. Asics had sent me a pair to try out, but I’d only worn them a couple of times since they are not intended for running.
I discovered that this lightweight shoe is awesome for walking around, light cardio, and riding my exercise bike. (Yes, it’s in the playroom. Yes, my kids need to clean up.)
And, while I’m usually not an athletic shoe with jeans kind of girl, I thought these looked kind of cute with them. In fact, I’m trying to justify buying myself another color. Yes, I am addicted to shoes.
From the Asics website:
The GEL-Fit Sana™ features a Flexible Fit system with flexible support bands from heel to forefoot, to provide adaptable support in designated areas. Designed with a stretchable mesh upper and MONO-SOCK® upper construction, it gives a sock-like fit and feel that makes for a secured comfortable wear. A smooth inner lining and lightweight, low-profile midsole gives this GEL-Fit Sana™ a barefoot-like sensation and an overall customized fit. Weight: 5.6 oz.
I will admit that I prefer to wear them with socks. It is winter, after all. I had to wear really thin socks (since they are designed to be worn without and I bought my street shoe size, not my running shoe size), but I found they fit very comfortably and they are definitely a light weight shoe.

If I weren’t needing to be super careful with my foot right now (fingers crossed, I ran 6 pain free miles on Sunday), I’d totally have tried these out as a running shoe too. Really, I think these shoes helped heal my foot. They did not put any pressure on the sore spot and they offered a lot of support around my foot. Kudos to Asics for creating a super comfy, lightweight, but supportive shoe!
Do you have a favorite non-running athletic shoe?

Disclaimer: Asics sent me these shoes to try for free. All opinions are my own.
I am loyal to my saucony, but this was an interesting read. I had not even heard of the Sana. Look like a good shoe though!
I’m pretty loyal to my Altra for running, but I really like these for day to day wear and for other types of workouts.
They are seriously an awesome shoe! LOVE mine!!!
Non-running shoe, are you crazy?! Actually Saucony just gave us a new street shoe and I am kind of obsessed, plus it’s neon pink and that makes me happy
Great review. I have these shoes and LOVE them. They are a great cross trainer! 🙂
Currently, I alternate every other day between a pair of Asics and a pair of Brooks. These look interesting and I’d be curious to know if they work for running or of the support just isn’t there. You’ll have to keep us posted on that!
I absolutely love this shoe! They are so comfy and feel almost like a slipper. I could wear this shoe all the time, workout and or just hanging out. Definitely a great non-running shoe. I hope that your foot stays feeling well!! Thanks for sharing your great review!
I love this shoe its perfect for the gym. I’ve been wearing mine and really like having some variety.
I have been enjoying mine as well! They are great for an everyday shoe! So comfy!
Great review! I actually don’t have any non-running casual shoes, just my work heels, winter boots and runners. I should ask Santa to bring me a pair?
I love Asics (for running), and for training and everyday wear, I am a Reebok girl!
This is the second post I’ve read today about these shoes! I’m not sure I would use them for running but these pregnant feet could use some comfortable shoes for everyday use! I’m going to check them out soon 🙂

These look exactly up my alley. Love the pink ones!
Quiet as it is kept I tend to wear my old running shoes as around the way shoes. I love ASICS and these are cute.
I only wear Asics for running and have never seen this shoe. One of my feet on the heel is bothering me. Perhaps I will take a look at these when I get back in town. I’m determined to take 2 weeks off of running to heal up a few aches. I’m going crazy at day 9
Oooo, I love those shoes and I’m loving the pink! I also love how lightweight they are! I’m a big Asics fan.
I love my Reebok cross trainers and Nikes. That said, I’m in pursuit of a new running shoe. Any recommendations?
I just got a pair to review as well! I’m getting ready to sport them around this week now that I”m feeling better and actually out of my pajamas 🙂
I really like the look of this shoe! I work in a gym, so I often spend a good 6+ hours on my feet, except I’m NOT running, so I try not to wear my running shoes. These might be perfect!
