It always amazes me how fast the months slip by. It’s hard to believe I wrote my last “coffee date” post from New Zealand. We’ve been back 3 weeks and I still feel like I’m trying to catch up. Apparently, taking two full weeks off from life does not work well for me. Anyways, I’m joining up with my friends Deborah and Coco for a virtual coffee date as well as linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday Five 2.0.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I haven’t made it to bed before 1am in over a week. And it’s not like I’m sleeping in – I’ve gotten up in time to run at 6:30am a couple of days and I’ve had early commitments several days. I live for the few days I’ve gotten to sleep in, but let’s be real – sleeping in for a mom is 8:30am instead of 7:00am. Yes, I am tired.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m super excited for our annual trip to Madison for the Great Taste of the Midwest. I really enjoyed the beer festival in Auckland, but the one in Madison is truly the best I’ve ever been to. And the night before is when all the shenanigans take place…
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I am super excited that my kid is heading off to sleep away camp next week. If I were a great mom, I’d be excited at all of the outdoor stuff he’s going to experience and all of the fun he’ll have. If I were a good mom, I’d be happy that he’s getting an electronics break and will have some time for in person interactions with friends. But I’m a bad mom and I’m really just excited that I won’t have to hear Fortnite battles from his room every evening.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that while I’m in Wisconsin, I plan to visit the Lake Lawn resort where ZOOMA Great Lakes is taking place. I’ve heard it’s gorgeous and I can’t wait to see it and maybe run a bit of the course. I may or may not have convinced Marcia to join me in the fun. (And if you want to join our fun in September, use code ERIKA2018 for 10% off.) Checkout the new t-shirt design!
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I may be picking up another work gig. I’m excited, but this fall might be a bit insane. I have three ZOOMA races to attend, Beer Geek travels for work, and supposedly I’m running the Marine Corps Marathon. Luckily, I tend to get super efficient and focused as more stuff gets thrown on my plate. I just keep reminding myself that lots of people work full time, travel for work, have kids, and train for long distance races. In fact, that probably describes many of you, so feel free to throw tips and tricks my way.
Why have you been staying up so late? I hope it’s not that you’re having trouble falling asleep. 🙁 That’s the worst!
No, I’ve been binge reading LOL.
Seriously, I don’t know how people do all that! Just training for a slightly longer race seems to be taking up all of my time! This is peak week though, so it’s all downhill from here — IF there are no thunderstorms tomorrow morning (really? rain wasn’t bad enough for my longest long run — ever?).
I’m not a mom. Sleeping til 7am still doesn’t happen for me, but then again, neither does going to be at 1 am (not unless I’m traveling!).
They do say if you want to get something done, give it to a busy person. And I believe that!
I’m so over the rain and storms this summer. But yeah, I don’t know how people juggle it all.
I’m looking forward to our course preview! Around here people are hiring “tutors” to help their kids be more proficient at Fortnite. Shm.
Sheesh. I’m so over the stupid game. I will confirm tomorrow that Wednesday still works.
Have a great time in Madison. That trip sounds like it’ll be a lot of fun!
I love it there, so happy to be going home for a couple of weeks.
I feel your pain about adjusting to different time zones. We visited my son in Colorado last week, which is s 2-hour difference from home, are visiting another son in Oregon this week (a 3-hour difference), and my sleep schedule is all thrown off. I can’t even imagine adjusting to the time difference in New Zealand! Good luck with your new gig!
I was shocked at how long it took me to feel normal! We are about to head to central time zone, but I think I’m going to try to just stay on EST.
This month has flown by! But it is hard when you’ve been away! Goes even faster! Awesom new gigs! Congrats
I know! Every year, I’m like “I won’t travel so much in the summer” but somehow every year that’s exactly what I do.
I love that shirt design! It’s always a relief when the race shirt has a fun design and is a good color.
I know. I love some of the new things that ZOOMA is doing.
Hey, no shame in being excited to have some time away from your kid! Being a mom is hard, and sometimes you need a break 🙂
I know and I’m actually very excited about how much fun he’ll have where he’s going. I’m kind of jealous.
I cannot even stay up until 1 am ever. I am feeling old lately! It’s nice to have some down time while the kids go away to camp and does not make you a bad mom at all. I would love to find a small “job” in our niche so keep me in mind if you hear of anything. Thanks for joining us for coffee always great to catch up
Ping me some time and tell me what you’d like to do. I keep hearing about things. Most of what I’m doing is more race related than social media related.
ZOOMA sounds like a fun weekend…but I may be headed to Philly for the R’n’R that weekend….still fine-tuning all the logistics…
Bummer. Come to ZOOMA instead!
I didn’t realize the beer fest was the same weekend at ZOOMA! Talk about fun. I can’t wait until we finally meet!
It’s not – beer fest is next weekend, but Marcia and I are going to meet up on Wednesday at Lake Lawn. If you aren’t working, come join us!
The Fortnite obsession is so crazy, right?! I don’t know how you are functioning on so little sleep – I think I’d be walking into walls LOL.
Luckily I can usually get about 6 hours a night and occasionally 7 and that helps me survive the much shorter nights. I need to get back to the 11pm bedtime though.
I really want to get back to Madison. I’ve only been once for a quick work trip but it’s so gorgeous there! I know you will figure out how to juggle everything!
Thanks for joining us for coffee!
I love it there. 6 more years until we can consider moving back…
I’m laughing out loud over your thoughts on your son being away at camp. I will confess to actually doing ‘happy dances’ when my boys were young and went off to summer camp. Moms just need a break sometimes!
I really wish I could make it to the Zooma half in Wisconsin this year …it’s just too soon after our trip to London and I know I’ll be struggling with the time zones as well! Your New Zealand adventures looked incredible!
Bummer that you can’t make it – would be awesome to meet you. Have fun in London though.
Last month flew by! I seriously don’t know how people with kids / full time job + work travel fit it all in. I do guess you become more strategic with what time you have.
I feel like summer is insane with the kids home and I and my husband both work from home- running sort of fell my the wayside honestly, as did housework, so it’s not all bad! I am looking forward to school and routines starting for sure- it totally helps me!
