You know how you spend time training and planning for something big and then it’s done and you are left coping with nothing on the horizon and feeling sort of deflated. Yeah, I have that post-high letdown going on. Two marathons, Ragnar, a 20th anniversary trip, and a fun party with friends filled the last 3 weeks, but now? Boom. Back to reality.
I’m joining Tara and Erin to relive a bit of the fun from last week and put off the laundry and grocery shopping that needs to happen.
After finishing Ragnar (did you see my recap? Don’t you want to do one now??) and a lovely night on Nantucket, we headed back to the mainland. We had a bit of a break before the next ferry, so of course we stopped at Cape Cod Brewing.
Then we headed out to Martha’s Vineyard, where we staying in the lovely Oak Bluffs Inn. I actually managed to get a run in that morning.
After a day exploring, we had just enough time for one more beer before we hopped the ferry again.
Next, it was off to Newport, Rhode Island, where we got the one and only picture of both of us during the whole trip. Oops.
Actual conversation:
Me: Why are we staying in Newport?
Beer Geek: Because I need this county to finish Rhode Island.
Me: I assumed it was something like that.
Finally, we spent one last night in Boston, but we were too tired to actually go into the city. Instead, we just admired the view from our hotel room:
Since we don’t know how to have a calm life, the weekend was crazy as well. My dad arrived on Thursday (my mom had been with the kids all week) and Beer Geek’s close friend arrived from Belgium. The two of them spent the next few days trying to get as many pictures as possible since Eric hadn’t been here in 20 some years.
Then we celebrated 20 years of marriage at Mad Fox Brewing with some of closest friends from near and far. It was an amazing evening and a great way to finish our vacation.
Now it’s time to get back to work at my job, figure out my next training plan (although I plan to continue my no plan running for at least another week), and get back to eating normal sized meals. We have had some sad news in our extended family and Beer Geek’s father is in ill health, so I need to get running again to help me cope.
So, I’ve been out of touch. ย Tell me what’s been going on in your life the last couple of weeks! Don’t forget to enter the Skirt Sports 13er giveaway.
(And tomorrow on Tuesdays on the Run, we want to hear about your favorite/most inspirational running book or movie!)
I’m so sorry to hear about Beer Geek’s father. I hope everything will be ok.
It’s really hard coming down off a busy running season/period. I struggle with it – and I try to combat it by being super reasonable and signing up for more races LOL!
Nothing major here. We just got back from a cruise and now we are getting ready for summer. Lots of camps and hopefully lots of fun, too!
I know. I’m feeling the urge to sign up for another race, but really, my body and my wallet need a break. ;o)
Sounds like you head a great week! Just checked out your Ragnar recap and it looks like a blast! Definitely would love to do that run sometime! Hope you enjoy some normalcy again!
It was awesome. I love Ragnar.
I need to go read your Ragnar recap!! I’ve got DC this fall. Sounds like a crazy busy couple of weeks!! I’m with you I get so busy and then all of a sudden, boom nothing. Kind of a let down. but your body needs to rest for sure. Happy Anniversary!!!!!
It was a different vibe than DC, but I loved them both. I can’t wait to do DC again in the fall.
Ah I wish I could have stayed up there another few days myself. I love Nantuckett too. The whole thing already seems like it was ages ago.
It was awesome to stay up there. I was bummed you all had to do the whirlwind tour.
You had the most amazing trip, all planned around Ragnar. I’m so jealous!
I know. We never would have done it if my team hadn’t won an entry to Ragnar Cape Cod. I’m so glad we went.
Happy anniversary to you both! I hope getting back into the swing of things goes well and I hope Beer Geek’s father is ok :-/ Sending good vibes your way!
Thank you. I’m getting a bit more settled in and the FIL situation is a waiting game at this point.
So sorry to hear about your FIL.
Sounds like you had a busy, but wonderful week and weekend!
Happy Anniversary! Have a good RECOVERY week! ๐
Thank you!
I hope his father’s health improves! Martha’s Vineyard seems like such a glamorous place. I’d love to visit someday.
I actually liked Nantucket better, but I’m glad I got to visit both. I wouldn’t want to be there during the tourist season though. We get enough crowds here in DC…
Crazy, but busy weekend…hopefully this week isn’T as intense for you ๐
It’s busy, but not any more than “normal” LOL.
I’m sorry to hear of icky health issues going on with your family, yet very pleased to hear about all of the fun you’ve been having lately and your great weekend. That view from the hotel room was pretty spectacular, my friend; I might have stayed in, too! ๐ Thanks so much for linking up with the blog; hope you’re having a good Monday.
Yeah, our room was much nicer than expected. And super convenient to the airport.
I hope your FIL is ok! Gosh you’ve had an epic month of adventure.
It has been a bit crazy this month LOL.
sorry to hear about your father in law – i’ll keep him in my prayers. you’ve had quite a whirlwind lately. welcome home and back to reality! ๐
Yeah, it’s been a crazy few weeks. Time to get back on track.
I know the feeling so well! Gaaah, returning to life is silly. Let’s just vacation full time!
I’m with you. Let’s vacation MORE.
So sorry to hear about Beer Geek’s dad, my thoughts are with you! I can imagine it must be a huge let down after and epic vacation!! You guys really lived it up! Well deserved!
Yeah, it was a pretty amazing vacation. Hard to be back to “normal” LOL.
Sorry to hear about your FIL. I haven’t read your Ragnar recap, but I will check it out! Some of my friends from New England ran (Team Hole in the Wall) and it looked like they had a blast! I’m a little jealous! I don’t like beer (I KNOW…I’ve TRIED), but I do love Nantucket and Rhode Island….never made it to Martha’s Vineyard, but hope to one day!
Ragnar was so fun! I can’t wait to do my next one.
So sorry to hear about your father in law. My thoughts are with all of you.
Thanks. We hope to know more soon.
Sorry to hear about your father in law. Happy Anniversary to you and Beer Geek.
Thank you. Hopefully we’ll know more soon…
Sorry about that news – will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. But also, happy anniversary! Looks like you guys celebrated in a great way ๐
Thanks! We definitely had a fun time with this one.
I don’t transition well, so back to reality is a huge struggle for me. Happy 20th anniversary! What a fun few weeks you’ve had. I hope you get good news about the family.
I’m definitely struggling with being back at home with our usual stresses.
I enjoy your running and beer adventures! I like how you fit it all in! Congrats on 20 years, AMAZING! Have a great week and I hope the FIL is doing ok.
Thanks. We try to have fun (and usually succeed LOL).
I’m sorry about the sad news and Beer Geek’s father. And it’s hard to get back to reality!
Thanks. I want to go back on vacation…
Your reason for being in Newport is awesome! I grin when I see your beer pics. She surely loves her beer always comes to mind ๐
We have our quirks. ;o) And I do love my beer.
So sorry to hear. All the best to your family. ):
Such an exciting life haha I’ve pretty much been laying around for the last couple weeks trying to recover from the last 5 years of undergrad lol
