We had a really great evening on Saturday night with a small group of friends. It was our annual holiday beer tasting, which we have to keep small because our living room is just so small LOL. We tasted 21 different beers, ate some good chili and cornbread, and finished up with pecan bars and an amazing chocolate cake (made with Guinness!).
And I didn’t take a single picture. Not one. Gah.
I also did not run all weekend. And I’m o.k. with that.
My run on Friday (in my new Newtons) did not go well. My calf tightened up at 1.4 miles, so I ended up walking about a mile home. Newtons are not good walking shoes. Just sayin’. I’ll be taking those back, as I wasn’t thrilled with them for running and, while I don’t walk a lot during my usual runs, I need the option to walk.
Saturday, I woke up with a really unhappy calf. I was seriously bummed, but honestly too busy getting ready for our party to worry overly much. Also, I’d just seen a post that Angie B did about squatting for calf health, so several times on Saturday, I sat in a squat for a minute or so. Mind you, my heels are nowhere near the floor when I squat LOL.
Guess what?!? By the end of the day, my calf was no longer tight and the knot I was working on with The Stick, was pretty much gone. Hmmm…
I planned to run yesterday, but I spent most of the early part of the day working and then the latter part of the day helping the boys with school projects, so I just never got around to it.
Fingers crossed that today I have a good run on the treadmill and that I can then try out my new Saucony Virratas and my Brooks Pure Flow 2. Hoping one of those will be the magic shoe that allows me to get through a 65 mile week in mid-march!
Sounds like a fun weekend without the running.
You may want to lower expectations for the “perfect shoe.” There’s probably no perfect fit, but there are probably lots of “good” fits. Don’t let the perfect get in the way of the good.
stretching and squatting! imagine that!! I forget to do that sometimes…glad it helped!
I ran in my Virratas yesterday… and really really liked them!
This is what I love about the running/blogging community – picking up little tricks and tips from other runners that really work. Good to hear the the calf issue didn’t last long.
Nice beer fun for sure! I have a friend that also complained about Newtons after walking a huge part of a race where he felt really sick.
ID SAY GREAT BLOGGER.
you know when to live and not blog about life.
21 beers? That is a lot of tasting! Fun!
Good luck on today’s run!
I hope you find the right shoes. I’ve heard a lot about Newton’s and it seems you either love them or hate them. I need too much support so I love my brooks glycerins!
