First off, I’m not big into yoga. I’ve only ever done yoga as part of another class. I took a pi-yo (pilates yoga) class when Jones was a baby, but that’s it.
It felt amazing to walk into the hot, hot room. I can’t imagine enjoying that in summer, but right now when I’ve felt cold for a week, it felt great. I was afraid I’d have trouble with the heat and everyone told me just to sit if I needed to. Apparently, just staying in the room the first few times is an accomplishment.
Surprisingly, I managed to complete the whole workout. I was dripping wet by the end and had a bit of trouble grabbing onto slippery body parts, but it.was.awesome. I found the balance poses a challenge, but that’s a personal issue LOL. I also had trouble with some of the floor work because my ankles, calves, and quads are tight, but I managed to do every exercise at my own level. Today, I mildly sore in places I didn’t even know could get sore, but it’s nothing like the soreness after a marathon, so I’m liking it.
Will I do it again? Yep. It’s hard to work it into my schedule and I got dehydrated yesterday (I was rushed to pick up the kids and then we were out all afternoon), but the workout was a nice change from running and I think it will eventually help with my running. I’m hoping to manage it once a week after the holidays, at least while it’s cold out.
If you get a chance, check out a sesssion!
I am 6 weeks into doing bikram twice a week. the holding on to slippery body parts gets easier i will tell you that.and as runners we have a few challenges with certain poses due to weak areas and overall just being 'tighter'. this too gets better.the balancing poses are making my ankles (and my legs)stronger as i struggled with some 'pain' at first especially there.it has DEFINITELY helped me with my running. i feel stronger, i breathe better and i feel like my endurance went up a notch without having to add on a bazillion extra miles.
Glad you liked it! Adding bikram is in my plan for just before it starts to get super hot here for the summer.
You're a genius! I need to get myself to a hot yoga studio to beat these perma-shivers. But I don't even want to think about stepping back into the cold.
I'm glad you liked it too. I think I may look into it here. Have a great weekend!
You're yet another endorsement for it…one of these days I'll try it. And warmth right now sounds SO good! BTW–I tagged you in my post today.
I love yoga and would love to try this!!
so here is my question, how bad did it stink ?
I've been meaning to try one of those out, I'm a do it at home girl when it comes to yoga. But doing it in the heat sounds fun! So cool you took the plunge!Glad the running is coming back, have a great weekend!
I have been dying to try Bikram, but we don't have any studios in my little town. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
