Call me crazy

November 26, 2013 by MCM Mama 8 Comments

So, I’ve started looking at my plans for 2014.  In fact, I’ve started registering – 6 already paid for and 1 I’ll be registering for tomorrow.

I’m finding two problems: I’m missing 1 race for the 13 in 79 days (found one) AND I’ll have a race every weekend for 6 weeks.  I’m not worried about the physical aspect (I’m good at running races at an easy pace), but can I really commit one morning EVERY weekend in May to running a race.  Hmmm…  I know I can do 14 in 2014, just have to decide if Venus is worth it.

Here are my tentative races:

March 15, 2014 – Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Registered.

March 30, 2014 – Runners Marathon of Reston (Half )

April 12-16, 2014 – Mainly Marathons Riverboat Series (5 states, 5 days) – Registered!

April 27, 2014 – Iron Girl Columbia Half Marathon – $90

May 4, 2014 – Frederick Half Marathon – register by Feb 28 for $75

May 10, 2014 – Maryland Half Marathon – $75

May 18, 2014 – Marine Corps Historic Half– register on February 19

May 25, 2014? – Alexandria Half– register by January 31

May 31, 2014 – Zooma Half Marathon – Registered

August 16, 2014 – Madison Mini Marathon – Registered, but not part of Venus

October 18, 2014 – Baltimore Running Festival – I got a free entry

(I’ll add links and pricing updates/registration info as I move forward).

Nutritionella

On an unrelated note, yesterday was the first day of Elf4Health.  The goal was to go meatless.  I sort of managed.  I totally forgot in the morning and had a couple of pieces of Jones’ sausage.  Then I went to make one of our favorite vegetarian soups, Potato Leek (recipe tomorrow), and used chicken broth without even thinking about it.  Doh!

At least today is “unsubscribe” day and I have plenty of email lists to dump. ;o)

Have you ever raced a bunch of weekends in a row?  Did your family hate you by the end? Do you ever have a meatless day (and are you better at remembering than I am LOL)?

I have had meatless days, but they were not planned or by choice. If I go too many days without meat I become cranky pants so…

Oh, so noooooowwww you’ll run the Alexandria Half? I hope you do it. But, it was really hot. Is VA always so hot in May? That kind of weather could make 6 weekends in a row really interesting.

In my quest for 13 half marathons in 2013, I raced every weekend from mid-July through the first weekend in September. Not all of them were half marathons, some were shorter, local races that we do every year, and one was Tough Mudder. It was fun, but exhausting and I think my parents were getting sick of being the babysitter every weekend.

The most I’ve ever raced in a row is three weekends and by the end of it I was hating myself and wondering what had possessed me. But I sometimes feel like before just a stand-alone race. It always seems like such a good idea at the time.

I would love to run either of those races in March. Although I am guessing the Rock and Roll is very expensive. In the past that has been a 3 day weekend for me but not sure about this year.
I have raced 5 weekends in July before. Not a big deal for my husband. Most were close by. And not half length!

I”m not actually able to do that much racing. Two kids in college (plus myself next year) pretty much consumes all of our funds. Maybe in a few years when all of that is in our past!
