Head to head competition: Bia versus Garmin

Head to head competition: Bia versus Garmin

I recently got my Bia Sport watch in the mail.  I was so excited to FINALLY receive it.  I immediately plugged in the Go Stick and charged it so I could wear it to my race last weekend.  Unfortunately, I was one of the "lucky" ones and it wouldn't connect to GPS.  (Sidenote: Bia's customer service person is AWESOME and she worked on it all day Saturday and we had it working by mid-day on Sunday. GPS connects about as quickly as my Garmin now.) Anyways,  here are my preliminary observations from two short runs, including today's run where I wore both the Garmin and the Bia. Yes, it was super hot out. Yes, I'm dripping sweat. Accuracy: The Garmin and the Bia were only .03 apart, so I'm going to say the accuracy is … [Read more...]

What I cooked Wednesday

What I cooked Wednesday

Without any really good pictures because I'm totally lame... We have been slowly revamping our diets around here.  I guess you'd call it more of an attempt to eat clean.  I'm going for more of an emphasis on unprocessed, whole foods. My kids (like many kids) LOVE chicken nuggets.  Love them.  Could subsist entirely on nuggets.  Over the last year, I've worked really hard to expand their horizons and nuggets are no longer a several times a week meal, but they are still a frequently requested meal.  As in, if I ask the kids what they want instead of just putting food on the table, the answer is 9 times out of 10, nuggets.  (In case you are wondering, that 1 out of 10?  Shoo asks for PB&J, Jones asks for Trader Joes Mahi Mahi … [Read more...]

Old School Blogging: Holiday Edition

Old School Blogging: Holiday Edition

I just saw this on Laura's blog last night.  It's been a while since I did a blogging survey and I've got a head cold and need to wrap presents (must go watch the video on Christmas wrapping a cat...), so here you go... 1 Holy Night or 8 Crazy Ones? (Do you Celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, both?) We celebrate Christmas.  Depending on the year, it's either a really quiet time at home or lots of family stuff in the cold that is Wisconsin.  This year is  one of the quiet years. Peppermint or Chocolate? Both, please!  Pretty sure that Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint Joe Joe's are the best.thing.ever. Sing us into the Holiday Season, what is your favorite Carol this time of year? I love most carols, but the one … [Read more...]

WIAW brought to you by Schwan’s

WIAW brought to you by Schwan’s

"They" say that timing is everything.  I was recently given the opportunity to receive some food from Schwan's for review.  I jumped at the chance and they asked me to tell them what I'd like to try. You know how you should never go to the grocery store hungry?  Well, you should also never peruse a food delivery site while hungry (and a little bit stressed.)  If you do, you might just bypass the really awesome looking healthy things like salmon and wild rice pilaf that are on their new LiveSmart menu and head straight for the comfort foods. In fact, I sent them a long list of yummy foods and told them to surprise me.  They did not disappoint me. Can you say "comfort foods"?  I knew you could. And it was soooo good. After five … [Read more...]

Free time and comfort food

Free time and comfort food

I haven't run since Saturday.  I haven't taken this kind of break from running since this summer and recently my running has taken hours out of every day, so it's weird to actually have *time*.  Monday, I went both to the regular grocery store AND Costco in addition to working, buying new running shoes, and making a bunch of appointment phone calls.  Tuesday, I went to yoga class, worked 2.5 hours (I'm sure my boss is appreciating me having more focus on work LOL), did multiple loads of laundry, and went to the library.  So, THIS is what it feels like to have time!  I'd forgotten. I am hoping to hit the treadmill for a short run this morning.  My leg feels much improved.  Fingers crossed it will still feel that way after 3 miles.  The … [Read more...]

Jewish Mother’s Split Pea Soup

Jewish Mother’s Split Pea Soup

This has been one of the more miserable falls that Virginia has had in a while.  We seem to be getting rain at least a couple of times a week.  A lot of us are beginning to wonder when Virginia got placed just outside the *other* Washington. For most of October, my mood has matched the weather.  Adding a layer of stress over what is already my craziest month of the year and then throwing a ton of rain on top of that?  Yeah.  Depression was rearing its ugly head, only held at bay by a few really awesome runs. It's raining again today, but all is sunny in me. I went for a lovely run in the rain in my new Skirt Sports skirt.  (Love!  Will review later) Nothing hurt! I got final closure today with my primary physician that everyone … [Read more...]
