Ragnar Roundup with a slight emphasis on Ragnar DC!

Ragnar Roundup with a slight emphasis on Ragnar DC!

I only have one big event this fall, but it's a BIG one.  In less than two weeks, I'm going to be running Ragnar Relay DC. source 200ish miles from Cumberland, MD to Washington DC. I'm not quite the nervous mess I was before I got switched to Runner 7, but I'm still overly focused on it.  Unfortunately, I'm crazy busy with work right now, so I'm not sure I'm going to get much more actual training done.  I'm just going to have to get in whatever runs I can and call it good.  Instead, I'm going to move onto stressing about the important things, like what to wear and what my leg will be like. Since I've been doing nothing but surfing and reading about Ragnar Relay, I've put together a Ragnar Roundup of great blog posts to help you with … [Read more...]

Fun and active fall things to in the DC area

Fun and active fall things to in the DC area

Fall is my favorite season.  It's the time of year when I actually love to live in the DC metro area.  In fact, if I had my way, it would always be fall.  I love the cool (to sometimes cold) mornings.  I love the perfect running temps at mid-day.  I love opening every window in the house and clearing out the summer humidity. I love long sleeves and hot soups.  And the beer. OMG. The good beer comes back... Sorry, got a little distracted thinking about the beer. Anyways,  when Courtney, Cynthia, and Mar suggested the topic "Fall preview" for the Friday Five, the first thing that came to mind was sharing with you five fun ways to be active this fall in the DC area. 1. Run a race - Fall has some of the best races in the DC … [Read more...]

Five things I love about being home

Five things I love about being home

Today's topic from Cynthia, Mar, and Courtney is "Five things I love about..." Since I just returned from a lovely two weeks of visiting my parents in Wisconsin (and I'd move to Madison in a heartbeat if I could), here are five reasons I'm happy to be home in Virginia. 1. Beer Geek - One of the reasons that the boys and I started spending time in Wisconsin every August is that Beer Geek is really busy with work during that time. So, as you might guess, after a short visit for the Great Taste of the Midwest, he heads home and we stay for another week+. I LOVE being home with my parents, but I really miss him during that time. 2. *My* stuff - I have a great situation at my parents' house - an entire finished basement to myself. … [Read more...]

Three Things Thursday

Three Things Thursday

1.  I finally found a way to read blogs again that makes me happy: The Old Reader.  Yes, it's pretty much  a knock off on Google reader.  And that works for me.  I was able to download all of my feeds from google reader and upload them (complete with folders) to The Old Reader in a matter of minutes.  Pretty cool! If you've chosen a different reader, here are some other ways to follow my blog: Or on Feedly Or via email... Subscribe to MCM Mama Runs by Email Or join me on Facebook - where I frequently talk about beer and whine about the weather... 2.  Yesterday we went with a friend to the Baltimore Aquarium.  The boys loved it. I'll have a real post about it in a day or two.   Apparently they keep records a long time, as … [Read more...]

A teaser: The FitBase

A teaser: The FitBase

Last week, I met up with a friend for coffee.  This may have been the first time I've actually sat down and talked to this friend, as opposed to being covered in sweat and cursing his name.  See, C.J. is a personal trainer and running coach.  We've hung out at races together (note that we haven't raced together 'cause he's way faster than I am) and I've hired him on occasion to make me lift weights. But C.J. has recently started an awesome new project and I wanted to hear all about it.  After our meet up, I figured all my DC peeps should hear about it too.  The FitBase So, what is The FitBase?  Well, right now, it's the beginnings of a database of all the gyms, classes, and personal trainers in the greater DC area.  Doing a search … [Read more...]
