Here we go with week #2 of our April Rock Your Core Challenge! How did you do in Week 1? I saw some awesome pics on instagram! I have to confess that with traveling and Easter, I was not as invested in my core or the challenge as much as I would have liked to have been. I only managed one picture... But that's ok, it's a new week and a new giveaway and I'm ready to really rock it this time! Just in case you need a reminder or are new to the challenge here's the calendar: Remember if you add pictures to instagram and use #rockyourcore, you can get extra entries in the giveaway below. Need a little help with the moves? Nicole at Fitful Focus and Sheila at the Frugal Exerciser have created videos to help you get it … [Read more...]
How a night owl gets a workout in
Have you entered the giveaways on the Reader Appreciation Blog Hop? No? Go, do it, then come back and read. As I sit here, yet again, with the clock ticking towards midnight, I think about the workout I won't be doing at 0'dark thirty in the morning. I'd like to pretend that I'll get up early and run, but we all know that won't happen. What will likely happen is that I will get up at the last possible moment to get my older kid ready for school. Then, I'll take the younger one to school, usually in mismatched clothes and with my hair uncombed (yeah, I'm that mom) and then return to the house. Where I will drink coffee and eat breakfast and start some laundry. THEN (and only then) I will consider heading out for a run. I'm a night … [Read more...]
Slippery Slope
I haven't run since Tuesday. The combination of being REALLY busy and REALLY tired has pushed running way down the list of priorities. This is the first time in years that I've gone this long without running without a valid reason (you know, like injury or childbirth or recovering from a marathon.) I used to do this all the time. I'd get in good shape. Exercise would be a regular occurence. I'd be feeling good about myself. Then I'd get busy with the new school year. Or I'd be working two jobs. Or the one job I had would become super stressful. One day I'd wake up and realize it had been MONTHS since I got regular exercise. All my jeans would be super tight. I'd feel squishy and even my face would look chubby. I'd have to … [Read more...]
Three Things Thursday: Home again, blog migration issues, and a winner
1. We are home. We flew home yesterday on a near perfect flight. I got on the scale this morning and found I'd only gained a little over a pound while I was gone. I always gain a little bit at my parents' house, in part because I'll join my dad for a beer occasionally and I might have ice cream a few times. But you know why I think I always gain a bit? Ranch versus colonial. Their house is a ranch and even though the kids and I sleep in the finished basement, I'm not up and down the stairs nearly as much. I've been up for 45 minutes and I've already been down to my basement pantry four times and run back up to the upstairs twice. Proof that the little movements add up. 2. My blog migration was a big headache, but the final … [Read more...]
Walkin’ to Grandma’s
Every year I set movement goals for myself. I try to run more miles than the previous year or try more cross training or (this year) actually ride enough miles on my bike to count them LOL.But, I've never tried to get my kids to set goals with me. Shoo is incredibly active. Yesterday it snowed and he spent an hour outside by himself building a very small snowman, climbing on the playset, playing "winter basketball", and just running around. Then he came inside and got in trouble for dribbling his basketball on my hardwood floors. Jones is more like I was as a child. He played outside for a few minutes, then came in and started reading. I'm thrilled that he loves books, but I think if I … [Read more...]
