How is it only Thursday? It feels like this week has been a month long. Of course, I've managed to cram a crazy amount of things into the last few days. Seriously, since last week, I've gone on an all day field trip, taken Shoo to soccer practice, attended the RNR DC expo, gone on a tour of the Capitol building, run a half marathon, taken Shoo to two days of a soccer tournament, and attended an event at the White House. Add in normal things like my job, laundry, chores, etc. and I've been feeling a little pressed for time. Just a little. Unfortunately, when life gets crazy, two things fall by the wayside for me: sleep and healthy eating. I tend to go to bed around midnight normally with a 6:00am wakeup. This is just *barely* enough … [Read more...]
Five Wisconsin brands I always buy
Confession: I haven't lived in Wisconsin since I was 2 years old. But I still consider myself a Wisconsin girl. Why? Because growing up as a military brat, it was the place that always felt like home. The family farms were there. All of my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc were all there - many in the same small town. Somehow, I've always stayed a Wisconsin girl at heart. I mean, I can even say "Go Pack" with the right accent. LOL And part of someplace being home is the food that you associate with it. While there are plenty of things I would never look for around here (herring comes to mind LOL), there are certain brands that are made in Wisconsin that I still love. Johnsonville brats - These are still some of the best … [Read more...]
Dunkin’ Donuts Chicken Apple Sausage Breakfast Sandwich
Dunkin' Donuts sponsored this post, but my love of their coffee and all opinions are 100% my own. Confession: I love Dunkin' Donuts. In fact, I can pretty much trace my addiction to our Ragnar Cape Cod race where we stopped at Dunkin' Donuts for coffee and snacks after almost every leg. I completely lost track of how many breakfast sandwiches I ate (at all times of the day) and I'm pretty sure all of my runs were fueled by Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Just sayin'. If only I'd had the DD Perks App then! (I've since fixed that mistake.) So, it didn't take much arm twisting for me to agree to try the Chicken Apple Sausage Breakfast Sandwich that Dunkin' Donuts has brought back to the menu. Egg, chicken sausage, and cheese on an English … [Read more...]
Manitoba Harvest Hemp Heart Bars Review #hempheartbar
Manitoba Harvest Hemp Heart Bars were provided to me for review. All opinions are my own. Confession: I'm a snacker. In fact, I usually have two snacks a day. Depending on what I'm doing, I might have a morning snack and push my lunch later or eat a snack between lunch and dinner to keep me from being STARVING before dinner. And then I always (ok, 99.9% of the time) have a "bedtime snack". We eat dinner before 6 and I'm usually up until midnight. If I don't eat something, I can guarantee you I'll hurt someone in the morning. Add in Shoo's soccer, an evening run club, Jones' cello lessons, etc and you'll find me absolutely relying on snacks to survive. So, when I was offered the opportunity to try out the Manitoba Hemp Heart Bars, … [Read more...]
Healthy Snacks: Fit Snack July Box
I received the July Fit Snack box free of charge. Links below are affiliate links, which means if you buy through them, I might earn another box of their selection of healthy snacks. I am always on the search for healthy snacks for the kids and myself. I am a small meal/small snack person. I feel my best when I have healthy snacks between lunch and dinner and in the early evening. We eat dinner at 5:45 most days, so not eating between then and 11pm or later is just not an option. I've gotten a few boxes of Fit Snack now and I've been pleased every time, so I'm happy to be one of their ambassadors. … [Read more...]

Fit Foodie Run Weekend Recap
This weekend was the Fit Foodie Run in Fairfax, Virginia. For the second year, I'd been asked to be an ambassador and was excited for the events, including the race. Friday was the Fit Foodie VIP Party. I was excited to see my fellow ambassadors as well as to check out the awesome food selection that we'd get to try. Despite rush hour traffic, I made good time getting to the Fit Foodie party at Mosaic and was able to stop and pick up my race bib at packet pickup . (Very quick process!) Fit Foodie VIP Party Then I headed to the party!. This year it was held on the patio outside Gypsy Soul, who also provided the food. It was a lovely venue and I immediately ran in to Salt as I walked up. We chatted a bit and then Kathryn and her … [Read more...]
Memorial Weekend Recap + Black Bean Rollups Recipe
Today we thank all of those who have sacrificed for the freedoms the rest of us are enjoying. I try to keep that in mind as we enjoy our weekend and listen to Rolling Thunder as it goes by. We have had a very busy, but fun weekend. Today, sadly, will be all about getting homework and chores done, so no more partying for me, but that's ok. Back to the real world. … [Read more...]
Five veggies to love this summer
I love veggies. LOVE.THEM. I have never been one to not eat my veggies. (All of my healthy eating issues stem from the snacks I eat after my veggies LOL.) My parents tell me that when I was little, they'd serve themselves the vegetable at dinner and not give me any. Then when I'd ask, they'd tell me that those were only for adults, but that I could have some if I'd promise to eat them. Obviously, I was a gullible child. But it worked. I like almost every vegetable now. Except beets. I've never met a beet I like. (And believe me, I've tried every way imaginable to eat them. Apparently if you say that you don't like them, everyone will insist that their recipe makes beets awesome. No. No it does not.) … [Read more...]

Hello Fresh Review
I love to cook. I love to eat even more than I love to cook. But you know what I really do not like to do? Meal plan. I'm just not that creative and I have picky kids and I get stuck eating the same things over and over again. I have a particularly hard time as it warms up as I have fewer summer options. (Soups are my "thing".) So, when Hello Fresh offered me another box to try, I was all over it. Once again, it was a success. (Check out my previous box!) [Tweet "Get 25% off to try out a week of yummy meals from @HelloFresh #healthychoices"] … [Read more...]
Five Race Day Rituals
I'm sitting in a hotel in Pennsylvania, up way later than I'd planned. I thought I'd write this post earlier today, but a week of things like urgent care visits, kids home sick, and soccer practice gone awry led to a day of scrambling to get ready to leave. Thankfully, the traffic leaving DC was only sort of awful and we made good time once we got past Baltimore, so I have a few minutes to write. And I'm not running tomorrow, so it's all good. ;o) 36 hours from now, I'll be embarking on one of my crazier adventures. I've been a little taper crazy this week, but now that we have started the fun, I'm pretty chill. All that remains is to actually do it. So, I'm joining the lovely ladies of the DC Trifecta for 5 Race Day Rituals. Stop by … [Read more...]
