It's that time of year! Time to figure out what you are giving the runner in your life. Luckily for you, the topic for Tuesdays on the Run this week is gifts for runners. If you can't find something cool in the lists you find here, then you are going to just have to settle for a gift card. Personally, I'm a big fan of immediate gratification when it comes to holiday gifts. I mean, I love to get a race entry or maybe the promise of a future race trip as much as the next girl runner, but there's something about opening a gift that's for RIGHT NOW that just makes getting the gift even better. (Patience is obviously not one of my virtues...) And you know what gifts work for runners RIGHT NOW? Things that help them run in the … [Read more...]
TOTR: Top 10 gifts for runners
So, what do YOU want for Christmas? Pretty much everything on my list this year is running related. (Although if Santa dropped off a new Mac under the tree, I'd be pretty stoked about that. Right now I'm seeing that spinning ball of color WAY too often.) Anyways for this week's Tuesdays on the Run *Holiday Edition* with Patty and April, I'm going to share some of the things I love that might give you some ideas for the runner in your life. I'm looking forward to perusing all the other lists to add to my wish list. (Shh, don't tell Beer Geek!) ALS #IceBucketChallenge
I admit, I was one of those ignoring all of the videos on my Facebook stream. I assumed it was along the lines of those weird Facebook status that were supposed to draw attention to breast cancer. (Remember those? I think we were supposed to list our bra color one year and our shoe size and something else another.) So, I ignored it and went along my merry way. Until I was reminded that a member of my extended family has been living with ALS for years. And that one of my friends lost a brother to ALS fairly recently. And then I saw this video. I admit, I laughed at the first part. And then I cried. And then I donated. And in my typical backward fashion, I then allowed Shoo to participate. I know that there have been … [Read more...]
Warm gifts for cold weather running
The beauty of running in Virginia is that not only do you get to run in 100+ degrees with nearly matching humidity, but you also get to run in cold and snow. It doesn't hit single digits (except with windchill) often, but there are plenty of opportunities to run in the teens and 20s. I've got my attire pretty much down to a science, so let me share with you my favorites. 1. Half Zips - I'm particularly in love with the one above from Athleta. It has thumbholes in the sleeves and a pocket in the lower back that fits my iphone. Not to mention, I happen to love the colors in it! Don't want to spend that much? Target's Champion C9 brand is awesome for the price. I pretty much own every color. They don't have the fancier details on … [Read more...]
