Have you ever laid awake at night, nursing a small baby or listening for your child's next cough, and come up with the best.idea.ever? Or maybe an awesome idea came to you as you were running (and enjoying your few moments of peace and quiet.) We all know that sleep-deprived moms are some of the most creative thinkers out there! And sleep-deprived running moms are a force to be reckoned with. OK, so have your awesome idea (and actually remembered it at the end of your run). Now what? How do you go from great idea to creating your product? … [Read more...]
4am wakeup call
We all know I don't get up early to exercise. I'm just not a morning person. But I'll get up early for a race. Even if I'm not racing. This past Sunday was the {rescheduled} Woodrow Wilson Half Marathon. I haven't run it since the Inaugural race (not because it's a bad race, I just don't like to deal with the logistics involved.) But a moms' running group that I've become involved with was working the water stop at mile 8 and needed more people. Since I enjoy volunteering nearly as much as running, I decided to go. Hence, the 4am wakeup. Yawn! Sunrise? Not something I see very often... But, once again, it was totally worth it. Because manning a water stop at a race? Totally fun. "Momming" a water stop at race? … [Read more...]
If you give a mom a paintbrush,
If you give a mom a paintbrush, She's going to need to go to the basement for some paint. When she gets to the basement, She'll see that a load of laundry needs folding. When she takes the load of laundry upstairs, She'll notice the toys that need to be taken to the playroom. When she gets to the playroom, She'll decide to purge some outgrown toys. When she takes the toys to the donation box, She'll see the toilet paper stash and remember some is needed in the bathroom. When she takes the paper to the bathroom, She'll notice the shower curtain needs cleaning. Before cleaning the curtain, She'll decide the windows need opening. To open the window, She'll have to step over her running shoes... At which point, mom says … [Read more...]
I’m “that” mom and I’m ok with it
I had a mom comment recently at school drop off that I was one of those moms who is always in exercise clothes. At first I felt a bit defensive, but then I realized that it just says something about my priorities. I'm "that mom" who drops off her kids, dressed to go running. I'm also "that mom" who shows up fresh out of the shower or, better yet, still dripping sweat from a run. I'm "that mom" whose hair is always up in a ponytail. I'm "that mom" who never seems to have makeup on, or it's on, but half sweated off. I'm "that mom" who's much more concerned about her physical fitness than her physical appearance. So, as long as being "that mom" allows me to get a workout in every day throw in the occasional "extra" … [Read more...]
Happy Birthday Mom! and happy Fourth of July to everyone!
We like holidays around here. Mom's a fourth of July baby and Shoo's a Halloween baby. They get parties every year on their birthdays even when we don't have one specifically for them. LOLI ran a sweaty 6.3 mile run today (that's what I finished in an hour). We are going to see the fireworks from Beer Geek's office building tonight, so I needed to go park a car near enough that we could avoid the metro on the way home. I dropped off the car and ran the two miles back to my house and then ran my usual 3 mile loop. At the end, I decided to run more and make today my "long" run for the week. Now I need to shower and go hang with the boys until it's time to head downtown. Hopefully I'll have some awesome pics for you all tomorrow.Happy … [Read more...]
