It's not exactly a secret around here that I love Skirt Sports. I've been running in the Happy Girl skirt for years now. In fact, I love them so much that I got chosen to be one of the Skirts Sports Ambassador Captains. But let's get real here - I'd wear their skirts even if I wasn't an ambassador. And I'd try to convert all of you to skirt runners as well, because I happen to think they make some great products. But here's the thing. Even though I spent a lot of time in my Happy Girls pre-run, I very seldom wore them post-run. … [Read more...]
Hills and Beer
The title pretty much covers my trip to Asheville last week. It was an amazing trip, but it did not do any amazing things to my marathon training. (Didn't quite derail it, but close...) We drove down to Asheville via Chapel Hill. I went there for grad school, so wanted to take the kids there and show them the campus. Unfortunately, we hit awful traffic leaving at DC (note to self: on a summer Friday, always leave as early as possible), so it was close to dinner time by the time we arrived. I'd splurged and gotten us a suite at the gorgeous Franklin Inn (because we couldn't afford it when I was a student. Oh, and I had an apartment LOL). They upgraded us to the Presidential Suite. Girls’ Weekend Half Marathon
A while ago K from Just Trying is for Little Girls mentioned she wanted to do the Flying Pirate Half Marathon as her North Carolina race. T, K, and I watched "Pitch Perfect" while G studied and then it was time to for lights out. Despite not being sure where my body was in its recovery from my previous challenge, I decided to set some goals. It would be disingenuous for me to claim "finishing" as a goal. I've pretty well proved … [Read more...]
Hello, Tired!
This weekend I ran my 6th half marathon in 30 days. And I actually raced it! (More on that tomorrow when I have the energy to download pictures.) Today, my body is pleading "Uncle". I am flat out exhausted. My calves hurt, my quads are unhappy, and my brain is foggy. The combination of a hard run, not enough sleep, and too many hours of driving has emptied me completely. Know how I know? I got lost on my way home from meeting a friend for coffee this morning. Not "lost lost" as in I didn't know where I was, but lost as in I missed a turn and had to drive home via a different route. Given that I've lived in the same house for 15 years and I KNOW this area, there must be some excessive brain fog going on! (I'm just thankful … [Read more...]
