Probility Ann Arbor Half MarathonOctober 24, 20212:34:56 Temp: high 30s What I wore: hat, tank top, quarter zip, a Skirt Sports Lotta Breeze Skirt, compression socks, and Altra Rivera Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan When I decided that I wanted to visit my son at college this fall, it occurred to me that I could finally get back out for a live race! Conveniently, the Probility Ann Arbor race fell the same weekend as his fall break, so I jumped on the opportunity! Because the race was about an hour away, I opted to do morning of packet pickup. I missed out on the expo, but honestly, I don't need any more stuff from a race! Driving over race morning was easy (although foggy as all heck) and packet pickup went super smoothly. … [Read more...]
GW Parkway Classic 2017 Race Recap
GW Parkway Classic April 23, 2017 1:36:13 Temp: High 40s to low 50s What I wore: visor, tank top, a half zip, a Skirt Sports Happy Girl, compression socks, and Altra Ones This was my goal race for the season. I knew I wouldn't PR, but I wanted to run a sub-10 pace. I worked hard in February and March to pick up the pace and did really well on some early season races. But then April happened and I added distance and I stopped doing speedwork. After last weekend's half marathon with a 10:25ish pace, I figured my goal was unlikely. The weather forecasts went from bad to worse and back again over the last few days. Finally, it moved from mid-40s and rainy to high 40s and cloudy. That was something I could work with, sort of. High … [Read more...]
Marine Corps 17.75 2017 Race Recap
Marine Corps 17.75 March 25, 2017 1:58:22 Temp: mid-50s What I wore: hat, short sleeve shirt, Skirt Sports Happy Girl skirt, compression socks, and my Altra Escalante shoes I love this race. It's one of the hardest races I run each year, but I keep coming back. I didn't originally sign up to run because of a scheduling conflict, but had a change hours before the transfer period closed. A quick plea to the Facebook group and Boom! I was in. Life continued to be a little crazy right up to the race. My Saturday plans changed more than once and then on Friday Shoo stayed home with a stomach bug. Thanks to him just feeling icky and a mom friend being "on call", I was still able to shoot down to Quantico with friends to pick up my … [Read more...]

My Year in Racing: 2015
Last year, I made the decision not to run 15 half marathons in 2015. I stuck to my decision and instead ran 3 marathons, 8 half marathons, 1 10K, 2 5ks, Ragnar Cape Cod and a trail race. Oops, once again I overshot. 16 races in 2015. … [Read more...]
Runner’s World Half Marathon 2015 Race Recap
Runner's World Half Marathon October 18, 2015 2:27:30 Temp: Mid to high 30s and windy What I wore: hat, tank top, half zip, Brooks Nightlife Essential Run jacket, Skirt Sports Happy Girl Skirt(this is an affiliate link), PROcompression socks, and Altra Running One 2 (affiliate link). I knew that my goal for the Runner's World Half was to run at my marathon pace for the entire half marathon. Given that I was still coughing and had hardly run since mid September, I was a bit worried that even my planned marathon pace was going to be too much for this race. It was really chilly and windy and this race started away from the nice warm buildings and flushing bathrooms. I walked over with Heather and Jen and we did stop at the bathrooms on … [Read more...]
Runner’s World Five and Dime Race Report
Runner's World Five and Dime October 17, 2015 5K: 34:34 10K: 1:09:38 Temp: Mid-40s with a bit of wind What I wore: hat, long sleeve half zip, Skirt Sports Happy Girl Skirt(this is an affiliate link), compression socks, arm sleeves, and Altra Running One 2.5 (affiliate link). When I got invited to the Runner's World Half and Festival as an influencer, I thought I'd be pushing it at every race. Unfortunately, bronchitis and my hip had a different opinion. So, instead I had one goal for these two races: finish them both without re-injuring my hip. I was still coughing quite a bit and had forgotten my inhaler, so that added a little extra fun to the races. But I totally nailed my goals. 5K After hanging with several of the other … [Read more...]
Marine Corps Marathon 2015 Race Recap
Marine Corps Marathon October 25, 2015 5:13:18 Temp: High 50s and rainy at the start, 60s and sunny at the end What I wore: hat, MRTT MCM shirt, Skirt Sports Happy Girl Skirt(this is an affiliate link), compression socks, arm sleeves, and Altra Running One 2.5 (affiliate link). I carried a handheld water bottle, two GUs, a cut up rice krispy treat, and an extra nuun tablet. (Oh, and my metro card in case I decided that I needed to DNF.) Pre-race: I met up with some friends at a hotel in Rosslyn to walk over to the start. Due to a snafu on the part of the hotel, we got out a little later than planned and got to the security line right around 6:30am. The back up was crazy! The marines did an awesome job getting people through as … [Read more...]
Runner’s World Half and Festival – Trail Race with Altra
When I was first contacted by Runner's World about joining them for the Runner's World Half and Festival, they mentioned how excited they were about the trail race and that they hoped I would run it. My first thought was "OMG, RW just contacted me!". My second thought was "I'm going to break an ankle." Obviously I did not break an ankle, but I'm going to credit pure luck with that one, rather than any particular skill on my part. Prior to this past weekend, I'd run only a handful of trails ever - a couple of the Mainly Marathon races were on trails and I'd done the North Face Endurance Half (or 14.5 miler, whatever) a few years ago. None of these were particularly technical and I don't even own a pair of trail shoes. Friday … [Read more...]
TOTR: Running a Spartan Beast
I'm a runner. Period. I don't do triathlons. I don't do obstacle races. I don't even do trail races very often. Yeah, I know I need to get out of my comfort zone more often. Today's topic for Tuesdays on the Run is "novelty races". Patty, April, and I want to hear what you think of them, if you've done any, if you want to do any, etc. Novelty races are not my thing. I have little to no interest in running one. I won't say I'll never run one because I'd run one if there were a compelling reason (like one of my children wanting to do it), but I won't go out of my way to enter one. Since I have little to say about novelty races, I've decided to tell you the story of my friend's journey to becoming an "obstacle course racer" and running … [Read more...]
Will run for swag (or beer or bling)
It's time for Friday Five with Cynthia, Courtney, and Mar. This week's topic is "best race swag". I've gotten some great swag over the years including hats, half zips, bottle openers, and glasses. And Skirt Sports has given out some cute tops and skirts for their virtual races. But here are my favorites.. 1. The medals from Mainly Marathons. I know they are "bling" and not technically swag, but seriously, they are sweet! … [Read more...]
Fit Foodie Run Weekend Recap
This weekend was the Fit Foodie Run in Fairfax, Virginia. For the second year, I'd been asked to be an ambassador and was excited for the events, including the race. Friday was the Fit Foodie VIP Party. I was excited to see my fellow ambassadors as well as to check out the awesome food selection that we'd get to try. Despite rush hour traffic, I made good time getting to the Fit Foodie party at Mosaic and was able to stop and pick up my race bib at packet pickup . (Very quick process!) Fit Foodie VIP Party Then I headed to the party!. This year it was held on the patio outside Gypsy Soul, who also provided the food. It was a lovely venue and I immediately ran in to Salt as I walked up. We chatted a bit and then Kathryn and her … [Read more...]
