Laundry is one of my least favorite chores. And with 4 adult sized people in our house, it's a chore I get to do way too often. I took a couple of days off recently and suddenly I was 6 loads behind. What??? So when my clothes don't always come out smelling clean (or maybe it's an absence of smelling dirty?), I get kind of cranky. Between Beer Geek and I and our workouts and two, umm, teen boys, there are some smelly loads heading into laundry. For an added bonus, I have an old front loader. You know, one of those that always has to be kept open so it doesn't mildew. Enter Sport Suds. When I got the chance to try it, I was a bit hesitant. I fully confess that I do not separate our technical fabrics from our regular casual … [Read more...]
Naked Bar Review #nextlevelnaked
I have long been on the search for a convenient, easy to carry, easy to prepare, protein source. I think I've tried every protein powder out there. I finally realized that I'm not a fan of drinking my calories (unless it's beer LOL). There were plenty of decent options, I just never reached for them. So, I've been trying other protein sources - I need easy to carry with me, no refrigeration required, and it has to taste good. So, when I was offered the chance to try the new Naked Bars, I jumped at it. Naked bars are nut based, gluten free bars with added whey for additional protein. They currently come in two flavors: peanut butter (which is peanut based, as you might expect) and chocolate (which is almond based.) Neither has any … [Read more...]
Eco Soapr Review: Skip the Mess and Help the Planet
Over the last year, I’ve found myself focusing more and more on making better choices - fewer processed foods, products with fewer questionable chemicals, and products that are better for the environment. It’s not really a “new” thing for me - I work for a company that specializes in assisting organizations that promote water conservation and care of the environment. And when my now teens were babies, every choice I made was researched and leaned towards my “crunchy granola chick” side. I made their baby food. I packed their lunches in reusable bags and containers. They only wore Robeez and other soft soled shoes. Heck, Shoo was even born at home. (Let’s not talk about the fact that now my teens would happily choose chips and soda over … [Read more...]
Rockay Running Socks Review
This post was sponsored by Rockay Socks and contains affiliate links. All opinions are my own. I was recently given a pair of Rockay Socks to review. I had never heard of the brand before, but I'm so glad that they reached out. There are many things I love about them, but the thing that excites me most is their goal of creating great products while helping the environment. The socks I were sent are 66% Polyamide, 30% Organic Merino Wool, and 4% Elastane. The combination of materials provides for a comfortable sock that is warm and sweat wicking. I admit that I have not had a chance to run long distances in them yet (thanks to my heel), but I've worn them for walking and day to day wear and they are super comfortable. The socks … [Read more...]
Lotta Breeze Skirt: my new favorite workout skirt
I am a Skirt Sports Ambassador and as such, get discounts on new items. All opinions are my own. Links below may be affiliate links, which means I get a commission if you buy through them. There was a time when I was a one skirt woman. I only owned Happy Girl skirts. They are still my favorite skirt for winter running and for summer casual wear. But I've been slowly branching out and recently found a skirt that I LOVE for doing my Faster Way to Fat Loss workouts. Many of those workouts involve HITT or tabata or weight workouts combined with cardio (and we know I almost always choose running for cardio.) As much as I love my Happy Girl, it's a bit constricting when I'm doing burpees and jump squats. The Lotta Breeze Skirt, on the … [Read more...]
Skirt Sports Go Longer Skirt review and Giveaway
I am a Skirt Sports Ambassador and as such, get discounts on new items. All opinions are my own. Links below may be affiliate links, which means I get a commission if you buy through them. I love my Happy Girls. I have a ridiculous number of them and can't resist getting at least one or two new ones each season. But when I got heard about the new Go Longer Skirt, I couldn't wait to try it. The Go Longer Skirt is based on the much loved Go Longer Shorts. (I have a pair and I LOVE them for white water rafting.) I'll confess that I wasn't sold on it right out of the bag. It comes out a bit clingy and it looked crazy long. But then I tried it on. It's super comfortable. I love the higher waistband - it sits right at my belly … [Read more...]
Acupuncture: something new for 2018
Albert Einstein is regularly credited with the quote "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." While he may or may not have actually said it, the concept is spot on. Towards the end of 2017, it became apparent that I needed to make some changes. My first stop was with my doctor (who then sent me to a neurologist) just to make sure I had no underlying health issue. Thankfully, I was given a clean bill of health and the diagnosis was stress and hormones. Around that time, I got an offer through the DC area Sweatpink group - a chance to visit with a local acupuncturist. I did enough research to decide that it was unlikely that anything negative would happen. I was assigned to Jade and Jasmine … [Read more...]

Romance pattern - At least once a year, Skirt Sports comes out with a pattern that I love so much I want it in everything. Spring Cleaning with ZIPS dry-cleaning (+ giveaway)
ZIPS Dry Cleaners compensated me for this post and provided the giveaway. All opinions are my own. Spring has definitely sprung in Virginia. The weather is getting warmer and the days are getting sunnier (and everything is covered in pollen.) At this time of year I get two urges: clean my house and run every single day. One cannot resist the days when it's comfortable to run in a skirt and tank, but not be dying from the heat and humidity. It's also the time when I need to clean out the closets, match up the gloves, and dry clean the winter jackets. Since I was recently given the opportunity to try out ZIPS Dry Cleaners, I took the time to grab Beer Geek's work jacket, a few suits, and a bunch of shirts that needed washing. (I … [Read more...]
Upping my supplement game with Intelligent Labs
Intelligent Labs compensated me for this post, but all opinions are my own. I'm one of those people who very seldom takes a supplement of any sort. Not so much because I don't think I need them, but because I forget to take them. I need to be taking B12 because my number are low, so I've been working on making taking the B12 a habit. When Intelligent Labs reached out to me to try their products, I figured it was a good time to be adding some other supplements to my healthy habits. Intelligent Labs sent me two of their supplements to try out: Ultra Pure Omega3 and Probiotics and Prebiotics. I've never taken Omegas before, but I'm a huge fan of Probiotics. I know that when I take probiotics regularly, my extremely sensitive … [Read more...]
Prepping for Christmas with cardsdirect.com
Disclaimer: cardsdirect.com provided me with free holiday cards in exchange for this post. We have been crazy busy (like everyone else) the last week. In fact, today was the first day in a week where we did not have an event (and several days we had multiple.) To add to the fun, I have my first cold of the season. It's not awful (my immune system is pretty strong), but it is annoying. The end result of the crazy, though, is that I'm super behind on Christmas. The tree finally went up today, but does not have any actual ornaments on it yet. Tomorrow I have to mail out Christmas gifts to the grandparents as well as the gift for a secret exchange I'm doing. And I won't tell you how many gifts were sent with Prime this year. On the … [Read more...]
