I recently got a chance to try out the Zemgear Ninja shoes. I've worn them quite a bit, but haven't exercised in them much since they are only for use indoors and on soft surfaces. I don't exercise indoors much during the summer and one would never call the streets by my house a "soft surface". Aren't they cute? My kids think they are hilarious. I've run on the treadmill once with them and they were great. Very comfy and nice traction. I've also used them when I was lifting weights at my parents' house. I wasn't fond of them on the elliptical, but that was because I always end up with my toes against the front of the step when I use it. In normal shoes, this isn't a problem, but in these I felt … [Read more...]
Merrell Barefoot Pace Gloves Review
I love the Merrell Barefoot Pace Gloves. Love them. In fact, I have two pairs.I've done a zipline course in them.I've hiked in them. I've walked around the neighborhood in them. I've even run some miles in them. In fact, I've worn one of the two pairs nearly every.single.day since I bought the first pair a little over a month ago. But, I wouldn't recommend them as minimalist running shoes for someone who has never run barefoot or in minimalist shoes before. Here's why:For most people, barefoot running changes the stride and uses muscles differently. If you start out completely barefoot, the sole of your foot is going to slow you down and tell you when you need to stop. When you start out with minimalist shoes, … [Read more...]
The foot bone’s connected to the shin bone
Do you remember that song from when you were a kid? I totally remember singing it. I've recently had a lesson in how changing one thing can affect your body most of the way up. I ran 4 miles yesterday in the Mizuno Prophecy shoes. This is not a full review yet, just some thoughts on that run and how I feel today. The shoes are higher than my usual Mizunos (and way higher than my Vibrams LOL), so I felt a bit like I was running on platforms. It wasn't a bad sensation, just different. I also noticed right off that they are more of a stability shoe than I'm used to. They are still on the neutral end, just offer more stability than the Wave Riders do. My left foot does not pronate at all and I didn't notice the stability as … [Read more...]
Sugoi Firewall Jacket review
Some of you will remember that I won the Sugoi Firewall jacket from my local running store back in early December. Between my ankle and the kids, I didn't do much running after I won it, so I didn't get to use it much. This week, I've run in it four times. I love it! It rocks! The description indicates that there are three front zip pockets and one back pocket. As far as I can tell, there are just two front zip pockets. In all honesty, that's plenty. I put my ID, my keys, and my cell phone in one and use the other if I need to shove in my gloves. Because there is some stretch to the material, my items are held close to my body and I can't feel them and I never hear my keys. I've been wearing it in 25 to 30 degree … [Read more...]
Lift Your Sole Review
Back in early October, I met Jill from Lift Your Sole at the expo for the Army 10 Miler. I purchased a cord and three charms, but also mentioned to Jill that I'd love to have one with "MCM Mama" on it. I gave her my business card and promised I'd be in touch. Well, my busy October/November got the best of me and I completely forgot. Jill did not. Look what came in the mail for me yesterday: I.LOVE.IT! She even sent me a lovely silver chain to wear it on! Thanks, Jill!!! If you are looking for a gift for the runner in your life, I highly recommend her products. I don't often wear jewelry, but I've been wearing the necklace I bought in October often. Things are still not great in the running department, but they are getting … [Read more...]
Ryder Hex Sunglasses review and other randomness
About a week ago, a box arrived at my doorstep. Inside, were 5 lovely pairs of Ryder sunglasses.* I was beyond excited to receive some pairs to giveaway and two pairs for me to review. After consulting all my loyal followers and my darling husband, I chose a black pair of the Hex sunglasses. I've now run in them four times, in varying weather and for different length runs, so I feel like I've given them a good tryout. Before I tell you what I think of these glasses, let me tell you how I feel about sunglasses in general. I HATE them. I don't like the feel of them on my nose. I don't like how they either slide down my nose when I'm sweating or give me sore spots behind my ears when they are tight enough to stay on. Invariably, I break … [Read more...]
