Ahh, Monday, here we go again... Last week and this weekend were crazy busy again. It's funny how having soccer commitments four days a week makes the week busy before we add anything else. But I'm doing my best to actually capture that time to do some work or workout or even just to chill with a book I've been wanting to read. Last week I met with my trainer for another workout. Each workout is about 50 minutes of hell and then 10 minutes of massage/assisted stretching. In case you are wondering, I do it for the massage. Makes the hell totally worthwhile. (What's my definition of hell? Carrying 50 pounds of weights while walking up and down the stairs. My legs are fine with it. My shoulders, not so much.) Friday I woke up to an … [Read more...]
Unstuffed Freekeh Cabbage Rolls + Giveaway
Recently I was offered an opportunity to try out freekeh by Fit Approach and Freekeh Foods. Since I'm always trying to expand our eating horizons, I jumped on it. They sent me a package of plain and a package of Rosemary Sage flavor to try. So, what exactly is freekeh? Freekeh is roasted green wheat, so if you are looking for gluten free or wheat free, this is not your product. Freekeh is high in protein, fiber, and lutein. It cooks in a bit faster than white rice and a little slower than quinoa (22ish minutes after being brought to a boil), so it's a convenient grain to cook up quickly for dinner. The freekeh from Freekeh Foods is organic, non-GMO, and grown in the USA. The bag says it makes four servings, but I found that to … [Read more...]
Fit Foodie Run Weekend Recap
This weekend was the Fit Foodie Run in Fairfax, Virginia. For the second year, I'd been asked to be an ambassador and was excited for the events, including the race. Friday was the Fit Foodie VIP Party. I was excited to see my fellow ambassadors as well as to check out the awesome food selection that we'd get to try. Despite rush hour traffic, I made good time getting to the Fit Foodie party at Mosaic and was able to stop and pick up my race bib at packet pickup . (Very quick process!) Fit Foodie VIP Party Then I headed to the party!. This year it was held on the patio outside Gypsy Soul, who also provided the food. It was a lovely venue and I immediately ran in to Salt as I walked up. We chatted a bit and then Kathryn and her … [Read more...]
Memorial Weekend Recap + Black Bean Rollups Recipe
Today we thank all of those who have sacrificed for the freedoms the rest of us are enjoying. I try to keep that in mind as we enjoy our weekend and listen to Rolling Thunder as it goes by. We have had a very busy, but fun weekend. Today, sadly, will be all about getting homework and chores done, so no more partying for me, but that's ok. Back to the real world. … [Read more...]

The good, the bad, and the thirsty
It's been a crazy first week back at school. The boys are adapting ok, not great, but ok. Both of them get really emotional when changes take place, so the drama has been pretty high up in here. Thankfully they both have awesome teachers, so they'll settle in soon. Me? I may have to clone myself to make it to every event that is now on our schedule. Welcome to September. Sigh. The Good I've been selected as a Sweat Pink Ambassador! I'm pretty excited! I haven't had time to get super involved yet, but it seems like an awesome group of supportive women. I can't wait to figure out who's local and hopefully meet up with some at races this fall. I've also been selected to be an official Blogger for the Blue Ridge … [Read more...]
