Here we are in the last week of Rock Your Core and guess who has not rocked her core nearly enough... This girl. This girl right here. Ah, well, best intentions and all that. I'm linking up with Tara at Running 'n' Reading and Erin at Her Heartland Soul with the details of my weekend. Last week started with a gorgeous sunny day and an awesome 3 mile run, sandwiched in between picking up one kid from school and taking the other for a strep test. Yes, that's the life of a mom LOL. Thankfully, Shoo was the only one who got it and 3 doses later, he was feeling normal, so the rest of the week went as planned. … [Read more...]
Spring training is in the books!
Do I sound a little bit excited? Maybe it's because there will be no more Air Supply popping up on random play on my iPod during my runs. (Don't judge.) Maybe it's because I survived two days in a row of running for more than 3 hours and lived to tell the tale. Maybe it's because I have two toenails that are about to part ways with my toes and that's enough for one training cycle. Whatever the reason, I'm thrilled that training is D.O.N.E. DONE. So, it's quite fitting that today's Tuesdays on the Run topic is "Spring Training Update". Join Patty, April, and me as we talk about how our plans went/are going. We'd love to hear about yours! What are some of your highs? Your lows? Anything funny happen on the runs? … [Read more...]
The hay is in the barn
Yesterday, I went on my last "long" run. It was 6 miles with 2 extra miles of run/walk. 8.3 miles in 1:32 was not exactly where I thought my training would be at this point, but it ended an almost 30 mile week. Am I happy that my last double digit run was in the beginning of February? No. Do I wish I'd gone to the chiropractor sooner and had an extra week of running? Yes. I'm sad that I didn't have a 200 mile month and that my highest mileage week was 50 miles, because I never intend to do this again. (Kindly remind me of that when I start looking at the Riverboat Series that Mainly Marathons is planning for April of 2014...) But it is what it is. I considered trying to continue to add mileage this coming week, but my … [Read more...]
Who Stole My Sloth?
Yesterday started much like any other Monday. Dragging myself out of bed when the alarm went off. Mainlining coffee to force myself to join the thinking world. Taking the kids to school so I could have a few hours of quiet to recover from the weekend. My only goal - grocery shopping. But then, something happened. I went grocery shopping. Then I ran 5 miles. I did a load of laundry. I made a whole chicken in the crockpot. I ran (and emptied!) the dishwasher. I put the soaker hoses under the azaleas for the summer. (Yeah, that was just as much fun as it sounds.) I did some work for my job. I fed, bathed, and got the kids to bed. And then I painted. Starting at 10:30 last night. What??!!?? See, I have this problem. … [Read more...]
Is this taper madness?
This has been a really weird "training cycle" for me. I use "training" loosely as I haven't actually followed a plan. I knew loosely what I wanted to accomplish as far as long runs went, but I was pretty laid back about it. So laid back in fact, that I never really planned things on a calendar and suddenly I'm just 9 days out from the race. How did that happen? I was planning 13 miles today, but I've decided that with my crabby calf, I'm not going to risk it. I'm going to put in a nice easy 8 or so and call it good. But that means my last long run (all 12 miles of it) will be three weeks out from the race. Who tapers for three weeks for a half marathon? Sheesh! The funny part is that I'm really unconcerned. I'm not shooting to … [Read more...]
