We have been in a major food rut here. I've pretty much been cooking the same things over and over again, despite the beautiful recipes I have pinned over on Pinterest. So, when Hello Fresh agreed to send me a box to review, I was happy to take the opportunity. [Tweet "Get 25% off to try out a week of yummy meals from @HelloFresh #healthychoices"] … [Read more...]
How to eat the rainbow
Tuesday was "Eat the Rainbow" day for the Lindsay's Elf4Health challenge. In addition, the Holiday Sweat Challenge was offering a bonus point for eating 9 fruits and veggies. As an added incentive, Beer Geek was working in the office, which meant lunch was definitely going to be brussels sprouts. (Yes, I can only eat them when he's not home...) [Tweet "Looking to add more fruit and veggies to your diet? I've got you covered! #holidaysweat"] … [Read more...]
Dairy and wheat free WIAW
I love cheese. I would eat it every day and at every meal if I had the choice. It's the first thing I think to grab when I want a snack. I haven't met a food yet that doesn't taste better with cheese. And I haven't had cheese in 3 weeks, except for this past weekend. I love cheese, but it absolutely does not love me. I end up all stuffy and have wicked postnasal drip. Not eating cheese (or any other dairy) makes a huge difference. (I'm also avoiding most wheat, but that's because I have a bread addiction. I could easily eat a whole loaf of fresh baked bread in one sitting. It's just one of those foods better left alone.) To truly avoid dairy and wheat, most processed foods must be eschewed. Normally, this is not a problem, … [Read more...]
WIAW: Urban Remedy 3 Day Metabolism Kit Review
As I've mentioned a couple of times, I recently did a 21 day reset to try and get my eating back on track. I will review that process in a few days, but while I was doing that reset, Urban Remedy gave me a free trial of their Metabolism Kit. So, this week's What I ate Wednesday is a little different than last week's beer dinner LOL. When they first approached me, I thought they only did juice cleanses and I said no. While I enjoyed some parts of my last cleanse, I had no desire to avoid food entirely. Life is just too busy for me to be tired and cranky. Then they suggested I try one of their wellness kits that are a mix of juices and healthy foods. THAT I could get behind. Before I talk about their product, here are a few things you … [Read more...]
What I ate (at Ragnar) Wednesday
I have been struggling with my eating for a while now. I used to be able to get away with a decent amount of indulgence on the weekends because I ate well during the week and ran lots of miles. Somehow, eating poorly has become the norm on most weekdays and I don't even want to talk about my weekends. So, last week I started Laura's 21 day reset. I stopped eating wheat and cut dairy way down. I added more vegetables to every meal and ate fruit as my sweet treat. I made coconut milk chocolate "ice cream" and coconut flour muffins. I actually lost 4 of the fluff pounds I've been trying to get rid of and felt great. And then Ragnar happened. Let me tell you, Ragnar was a lot of things, but it was not a healthy eating … [Read more...]
Running decisions and WIAW
I'm going to come clean - I'm toying with the idea of running the Richmond Marathon. I know. I've professed my love for the half marathon and my, umm, not so much love for the marathon. But, I have to run 21.9 miles for Ragnar. What's another few miles? Here's why I'm still on the fence: running is sucking lately. Not just on hot days. Pretty much every day. My legs have no spring and no speed. I ran a tempo run yesterday and my tempo miles were slower than I used to run an easy pace run. My legs had zero interest in going faster and my breathing was ragged. Just for the record, it was a lovely, very un-Virginia-like, cool day. WTH? I just keep hoping that this is residual from not running enough in June and early July and … [Read more...]
What I ate at the Fit Foodie Weekend
As a Fit Foodie ambassador, I had the pleasure of attending the Friday night VIP Cocktail Party, the post race finisher's festival and the brunch after the Boot Camp on Sunday (Boot camp will be it's own post). I could really make this a really short post. The food was AMAZING. The end. No? Ok, here goes. or What I Ate at Fit Foodie Friday Night VIP Cocktail Party The event was held in the "Interlude" under the Angelika Theatre. There was a drink table with cocktail options, wine, and beer. I partook of the cocktail innocently called "The Juice". It was quite tasty and refreshing, which was a little bit dangerous. In addition to the drinks, there were four food stations + a huge table of Sartori cheese. (One of the … [Read more...]
Gatorade Blogger Event and WIAW
As I mentioned a few days ago, I've been at a Gatorade blogger event at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL for the last two days. In fact, I'm still at the airport with a few hours to kill before I get home. I had an amazing time. From the bloggers chosen, to the handling of the logistics, to the speakers they brought in to speak with us, it's been an incredible experience. I have learned SO much about fueling and hydration, both for athletic children (the focus of the event) and for my own running. I plan to share a lot about that soon, but my brain needs to process a bunch and I'm blogging from my ipad (doable since I have a keyboard, but still not easy), so today is going to be a fluff piece: what I ate on this trip. Before … [Read more...]
Where’d my wagon go?
This past weekend, I fell off the healthy eating wagon in a big way. Now, I'm a big believer in all things in moderation. I also believe that the occasional "eat.all.the.things" day is totally acceptable. In general, I don't diet, I don't restrict foods, I just try to make healthy choices most of the time. There were no healthy choices this weekend. We went out to dinner twice, we went to a cookout, and we went on date night. My meal choices looked something like burger, burger, Mexican food. Add on a few beers and a margarita and guess what? I feel like crap and my shorts are all tight. Ugh. It's time I really focused on my eating. "They" say you can't out exercise a bad diet. Right now, I'm the poster child for that … [Read more...]
Eat all the things Wednesday
AKA What I ate Wednesday... Last week, I ran 68.5 miles. I'm pretty sure that's my highest mileage week EVER. Five half marathons + a 3 mile recovery run = a lot of running. It also equaled a lot of eating. Like constant eating. Here's how I came home weighing exactly what I did when I left LOL: Breakfast: Every morning started with either a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a peanut butter sandwich and a banana. (I never thought I could get tired of PB&J, but I am. I can't stand to even think about one right now.) During the race: I relied mostly on nuun. Even though I could have eaten an oreo (or potato chips or a sandwich or a snickers or...) after each lap, I found that I really didn't eat … [Read more...]
Winner Winner and a Chicken Dinner
First off, congrats to Christi, the winner of the Apera Sprint Bag and the 25% off coupon for one of their other bags. a Rafflecopter giveaway Email me at mcmmama at gmail.com to claim your prize. So, I had this whole plan in my head to write about how my training went and what I learned training for my second "5 half marathons in 5 days" series, but my body has had other ideas. Apparently it's ready for taper. I'm exhausted. I've been falling asleep on the couch every afternoon and I've barely made it to Jones' bedtime the last couple of nights. Lesson learned? Trading sleep for mileage takes a huge toll on your body. Luckily, I have just over a week until the series starts, so I'm trying to sleep extra hours every chance I … [Read more...]
Wednesday Words + WIAW
Some random glimpses into my world: Yesterday it snowed. Today it's a feels like of 19*. The thought of getting on my treadmill makes me want to cry, but I'm so over being cold. I just can't do it today. And I'm going to be super pissed when Virginia pulls a fast one on us and goes straight from below freezing right to 90* and matching humidity. You know that's what's going to happen. I've become a little obsessive about this whole 13 half marathons in 79 days. I can't tell you how many times I've counted the days from RnR USA on March 15 to Zooma Annapolis on May 31. Every time, I get 78 days. I'm sure I'll count again. (You can count for me too and confirm it...) Yeah, I'm a little crazy. I still have one race … [Read more...]
