Coffee and Runfessions from the Longest Month of the Year

January 31, 2020 by MCM Mama 6 Comments

There have been a ton of memes going around about January being several thousand days long. I generally think time flies, but wowza, this month was a long one. At one point I was actually begging for snow, just to add something new to break up the month. Ah well, only one more day! I’m joining Marcia, Deb, and Coco for a little coffee and runfessions this morning.

If we were having coffee this morning, we’d be sitting in a hotel room together. I am yet again on a college visit, this time to a school that was barely on the radar and is now a front runner. It’s a flight (or long ass drive) away from home, so I’m not sure how I feel about it, but I guess all that matters is how Jones feels about it after this weekend.

If we were having coffee, I’d runfess that I never thought I’d be running pain free again, but *whisper* I think I’m there. I’ve got a hell of a long way to go to get back to my usual speed and mileage, but I’m just happy that I feel like I’ve finally making progress in rebuilding. I guess all the strength work and foam rolling is making a difference.

If we were having coffee, I’d runfess that I finally decided that I’m only running the 10k at ZOOMA Bermuda. We all know I love to race undertrained, but between the fact that I’m actually working the race and that I’m only just now getting my mileage up, I decided running the half was just stupid. I still get to have a pretty awesome medal!

Finally, if we were having coffee, you’d notice that I’m not putting cream in. I’ve given up dairy again (so hard!) At home, it’s not an issue as I love the Trader Joe’s Coconut Creamer, but travel is a whole different world. I only take a carry on, so I have to use a powder. Today I’m trying the Vital Proteins Collagen Creamer. While it does not quite have the same feel as a liquid, it is definitely better than drinking my coffee black…

And with that, it’s time to run off to college activities. Wish us luck in making decisions!

I hear you on coming back to running without pain. It’s not easy but I think I am getting there too. It sure can be frustrating to not be where you were. Hope your college visit goes well! Thanks for linking up for coffee today. Have a great time in Bermuda

I wish I liked my coffee black. I even bring flavored creamers when I travel.

    Looking forward to meeting you.

You are smart to switch to the 10k. I consistently complete races under trained.

I wish I could be pain free. I forgot when my foot didn’t hurt.

OOOHHH enjoy your time in East Lansing! We lived there for seven years (actually in Okemos, a suburb alongside East Lansing), and I would move back in a heartbeat. I’ve stayed injury-free prettu much since my surgery (June 2017), and I attribute stretching, foam rolling, and warm-up/cool downs as the main reason. Glad you’re feeling good!

Good to hear you’re feeling good!

Best of luck with the college visit. I’m just at the beginning of the process with my oldest son and all I can say is I’m so not ready!

    Love that medal!
I’ve been trying to limit dairy so I use vanilla flavored almond milk in my coffee. So far so good.
