As I sit here with my coffee, it’s only 74* out. I know that is still warm, but it’s way better than it’s been for most of the summer. Of course, I’ll be much happier when the temp starts with a 5 or a 6, but I’ll take a teeny tiny cool down. Since it’s the first weekend of the month, it’s time for coffee!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that yesterday’s 20 mile run was a huge confidence booster. The Marine Corps Marathon 50K has a required 12:30 pace per mile and lately my runs have been barely that, even when I’m only running a few miles. But yesterday I decide to do Galloway running because it was most important to just get the miles done. Not only did I finish, I averaged a 12:06 pace. Since you really only have to average the 12:30 until mile 22 (the first cut off), I’m feeling much better about the race.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that my toes are completely pissed off at me. I’ve been struggling with finding a pair of socks that works for me and yesterday was no different. I even bruised my big toe because my socks ended up too tight. I either need to go back to running in my Procompression socks or find something new. (I’m right at the edge of one size, I think I may just need to get the next size up.)

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that this darned cold will just not let go. I feel fine now, but the amount of snot my body is creating is ridiculous. Wednesday I ended up barely able to breathe during my run and could not hear out of one ear by the end. Yesterday, thanks to both allergy meds and Sudafed, I was only kind of stuffy. I wonder how fast I’ll be able to run once I can actually breathe…
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m running in a relay this weekend from one brewery to another. I’m happy that I’m not at all sore from my 20 miler, but my current status is “unable to wear shoes.” Hoping that my feet will be happier by tomorrow.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m pretty excited about some new purchases. I finally got the Altra Kayenta. Of course, they came yesterday after my run, so I haven’t even tried them on yet. I’m also about to get the new Skirt Sports Flirty Converty. It’s a cute ruffled skirt that you can take a layer off and have a shorter skirt. I doubt I’ll ever choose shorter, but I can’t wait to try it out. (If you’d like to try one or grab a Cascade – the skirt I wore for 20 miles with NO chafing, use code SSA322Eri for 15% off.)

I’m pretty excited that fall is on the horizon. It was warm yesterday during my run, but the dewpoint was lower and there was a nice breeze. I’m 100% convinced that that’s why my run went so well. Now if we could just have a nice cool day for MCM in October…
Anyone else ready for fall? It’s my favorite time of the year in Virginia, even though it’s also my busiest time of year…
I’m linking up with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date. Join us!
Troubles with socks and sock seams are no good. I hope that you find the right pair. I am loving following your 50K training. You are rocking the miles!
Wisconsin is going to feel like a breath of fresh air for you. Literally. So glad you figured out pacing and you KNOW you can make the MCM 50k cutoff. That is a huge stress reliever! Firty Converty is as cute as its name!
The cascade looks great on you! I love you in shorter skirts. Nice job on the 20 miler. The interval runs are really a great way to train and I think really help with recovery. Have fun this weekend at the relay! We ended up signing up for a tri next weekend instead.
Have you tried the CEP Compression ultralite socks? They have them in low profile ones. They’re very thin. (Or 1/2 size up in shoes).
Congrats on your 20! I’m doing my first 20 of the season tomorrow for Chicago/NYC!
Well done on the 20-miler!! That flirty skirt is too cute. I have gotten away from skirts (not sure why?), but maybe I need to revisit that fashion trend. My race last weekend felt perfect, the temps were in the low 60’s. It was horribly humid, but I didn’t notice it until I stopped running and was a major wet mess (#eeewww). That said, it felt perfect for running 😉
The weather does seemed to have turned a corner — aaahhh! Congrats on your 20-miler! I do hope you can put some shoes on for the brewery relay — that sounds like a lot of fun!
Congrats on your 20-miler! :]!
That skirt is so cute! I might have to finally grab one after I start working again!
