We are two days out from the Marine Corps Marathon and the first MCM 50K. As you might guess, it’s the primary thing on my mind. Nevermind that I have one more ZOOMA race to get ready for and my kid still has one more application to get done. All I want to do is think about the 50k, which means these runfessions may be a bit single topic. Thanks to Marcia for the chance to runfess.
I must runfess I’m really not excited about the current weather predictions. Rainy AND unseasonably warm? Yeah, I’m not doing cartwheels over here. I did buy a big pack of ponchos on Amazon. I was planning on picking one up from a friend in Crystal City because I hate being cold post race, but if the temps keep going up, I won’t have to worry about that.

Unlike many years, I’m not concerned about making the distance (I got in a lot of longer runs than usual), but I must runfess that I’m nervous about the time cut offs. The issue I’m having with my glute/hamstring has really slowed me down. I actually sat down today and created a “must be at mile x by y” list. I’m going to make it the screen on my phone so I can hopefully stay on pace.
And remember how I said that I was taking next year off? Well, MCM must have been listening because they came up with a new challenge.

Actual conversation with my husband.

Finally, I must runfess that I’m counting down the days until November 5th. ZOOMA Amelia Island was last weekend. While it was an amazing race, the weather caused a lot of issues and I am exhausted from lack of sleep and moving way too many boxes.

ZOOMA Wine Country is in a week and I’m not even sure I’ll be walking normally from MCM yet. But after that, the kids have a day off on the 5th and I have every intention of doing nothing but sleeping and relaxing. After that I have to get back to all the crazy stuff that’s been pushed off during race season, but for that one day I am doing NOTHING.
I hope the weather isn’t too bad for your race! You definitely need a break after everything you’ve been doing. Hopefully you can enjoy your one day off 🙂 Good luck this weekend!
A race? What’s that? LOL. It’s been a tough year for me and I’m happy to be running Hot Chocolate next weekend. How sad is that?
Good luck this weekend! You got this!
I learned about rain ponchos the hard way in Tokyo. I didn’t have one so I wore a tall kitchen garbage bag, figuring I’d toss it soon after the start. We stood in the starting corrals for 90 minutes (Japanese rules) and it poured. It only rained harder as the race went on and I ended up finishing in that dang garbage bag. Now I’ve got an Amazon supply as well.
If it’s warm enough you might not even want a poncho, but always good to have the option. Have a great race!
Thanks for sharing your RUNFESSION with us!
I always enjoy reading your blogs.
Have a great day on Sunday.
As they say, “You got this!”
I did a 7 miler last weekend in the pouring rain around 55 degrees. the rain kept me cool but not cold. I still think it’s better than heat. You have run in worse and you are a machine with these things. Good luck this weekend!
I’m hoping that the weather will change for you guys for Sunday!
I hope you have a great race! Looking forward to hearing how it goes! Fingers crossed that the weather works out, but if it doesn’t, you can definitely handle it!
Some members of my training group are running Sunday too. Fingers crossed for all of you. I bought the ponchos after yet another wet Half. Best investment ever.
Enjoy the well deserved day off on 11.5
That exchange between you and your husband is priceless!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you that the weather cooperates! Good luck this weekend!
