Confessions of a Race Addict

Did you say race? Where do I sign up?

Race addiction

Yes, today on Tuesdays on the Run, we are talking about how often you race. Umm, admitting how often I race is kind of like admitting how many skirts I have from Skirt Sports. I’m not sure anyone really needs to know the exact number…

I ran my first race in 2007 – an 8K. It seemed like a long ways. I ran 4 other races that year, including  my first 10 miler. 5 races in a year seems reasonable, right?

I ran 4 races in 2008 with my first half marathon and first marathon both occurring that year. That seemed like a lot of miles.

I ran 14 races in 2009 including 3 half marathons and 2 10 milers. Is this where the addiction began???

I ran 11 races in 2010 including 2 half marathons, a 10 miler, a 17.75K, and a marathon. Hmm, I see a tendency towards the longer races starting…

I only ran 8 races in 2011 due to injury. This was my chance to break the addiction!

Oh look only 10 races in 2012 – mostly of shorter distances!

And then the crazy began:

13 half marathons in 2013

13in2013

17 half marathons in 2014 (plus my first Ragnar…)

2014-half-marathon-bling-ragnar

17 races in 2015 including 3 marathons and 8 half marathons

2015 bling

And so far in 2016…

16 races!

You might notice that we are only halfway through the year…

Hi, my name is Erika and I’m officially a race addict. I have 3 more half marathons and 1 marathon left on my schedule and I’m feeling antsy about that.

Keep Calm half marathon

Are you a race addict like me or are you sane and only run a few select races each year?

Also, here are the topics for July – we hope you’ll continue to join us!

I used to race almost every weekend! When I was a new runner, after I first learned about races, I couldn’t imagine running WITHOUT a race on the radar! I’ve had to cut back due to cost these days, but I still do love a race!

I do a couple races here and there, but I use them as motivation to keep in shape. I did get caught up in needing to run all the races, but I think it’s a good thing I never did. There are so many races in such great locations.

Oh boy, I had a feeling that racing can get addictive… I only ran my first race in 2015 and have 5 on the calendar for this year, but I am simply expecting that to become worse, maybe?

This is my first time linking up with you guys… but I am excited to be part of the runner community.

Race addict — maybe, in that I enjoy racing — but definitely not on your level. Or Darlene’s. Or Holly, or Tricia . . . I guess we all have our own level of crazy!

You amazing with how well you can hold up with multiple races! My legs seriously rebel if I tried to race like that. I did 14 in one year and that was crazy for me!
