I’m pretty much just a runner. I don’t bike. I don’t swim. I very seldom do videos or take classes. But the last few days, I’ve done more cross training than I have in a very long time. I’ve shoveled snow, I’ve chipped ice off of our unplowed street, I’ve pulled Shoo and Jones around our yard on their sled more times than I can count.
And I hurt. My shoulders ache, my thighs are tight, and my calves are crying. CRYING, I tell you! I’m sort of scared of what I’m going to feel like tomorrow! I used to think I was in pretty good shape. Now I’m beginning to wonder.
Actually, I must be in pretty decent shape. Beer Geek and I are getting new life insurance and we got approved at the Preferred + level, which means we are darned healthy (and that our premiums will be low. Sweet!) Guess all the running and playing with the kids is paying off!
snow shoveling isn’t my idea of cross training! But good news on the life insurance. 🙂
great job on the cross-training…done more than i wanted to this winter! LOL
I’m the same way with the cross training. As soon as I do ANYTHING besides running, I’m totally sore.
I usually enjoy shoveling, but the snow this past storm was HEAVY!Thank goodness my kids think it’s fun to haul up their sled back up the hill. I couldn’t imagine having to drag them up!
I did the same thing this week. I jsut kept telling myself what a great workout I was getting while chipping away at ice. That’s the great thing about kids, they keep you moving! Even when you just want to sit down.
The snow shoveling and ice chipping isn’t very fun cross training, but I guess it’s a good reminder to do more than just run. I have the same problem.
That sounds like a lot of hard work! Especially since it involves so much snow and ice! Isn’t it March?
Ahhh, running fitness, gets ya in great shape, but doesn’t necessarily translate to other activities. Congratulations on the life insurance! It’s nice when being healthy actually does save you money in very tangible ways.
And don’t you find that, no matter how many miles you can run, walking up 2 or 3 flights of stairs still kicks your ass? It does mine anyway. Term life insurance is a very good thing for young healthy parents. Good job getting that taken care of.
Shoveling snow is serious cross training. Congrats on your premium heath.
Congrats on the great health. I think snow shoveling is the mother of all cross training.
I have a 9-year-old who still thinks things like leaf-raking and snow-shoveling are FUN! Kids are such idiots! But he’s at that great age where he still likes it AND he actually does a good job! Three-four years ago, he liked it but did a sucky job.But now … this slot machine/kid is finally starting to pay off!Beer makes you live longer, too. You might want to give it a shout out.Or don’t you do that around here?
