As I mentioned in my Coffee Date post, last week was pretty rough. So, come Friday night, I was ready to not cook dinner. Beer Geek and I had a gift certificate to a local restaurant and a few restaurants had extended DC Restaurant week, so we headed out for a decadent meal. Because I’m trying to cut dairy out of my life, I had an amazing Tuna Tartare instead of our usual cheese selection to start. I followed this up with some incredible scallops and sorbet for dessert. Sadly, I have no pictures to share with you as I felt awkward taking picture.
Saturday was a quiet day for the most part. I think I did 5 or 6 loads of laundry. Apparently when I get stressed, my usual less than amazing housekeeping skills get even worse. I did manage to get out for a short run in a new pair of Altra One 2.5s, but my stomach made me cut it short. Apparently the stress we’ve been under is not treating my tummy nicely.
Late on Saturday, we headed out to a local Irish pub for a friend’s 40th birthday. It was a good mile and a half from our house and we walked, so I actually managed to get 24,000 steps in by going up and down the stairs doing laundry and cleaning, running 3 miles, and walking 3+. Woot!
Sunday didn’t quite go as planned, so I ended up jumping on my exercise bike for 20 minutes instead of running. Then I drove out to Old Ox Brewery to meet Beer Geek who biked there. They had a food truck so I had a super yummy brisket and sausage platter for lunch. Then I drove home. Yeah, I did almost no exercise and my husband biked 50 miles. I really need to get my act together or I’ll be walking RNR DC!
I did watch the Super Bowl on Sunday night, but I’ll be the first to admit I only watched it for the ads LOL. I totally loved the Doritos one and the Heinz ad.
But the Mt. Dew puppymonkeybaby ad brought flashbacks to college when I drank way too much Mt.Dew while studying and had crazy dreams when I finally fell asleep. (You can thank me for not including that one here.
Thank you for all of your kind words about Ella. She made it through the weekend, thanks to steroids and a pain killer. She acted more like herself than she had all week.
I’ll be taking her in this week to get another steroid shot and find out our “long term” plan. Sadly, I don’t know if long term is going to mean a few days or weeks or months. For now we are just giving her a lot of love and feeding her Baby Cat out of fine china (since I’ve never used these mini bowls in 20+ years of marriage and I don’t actually know what else I’m supposed to use them for…)
I’m linking up with HoHo and Tricia for the Weekly Wrap again this week. Maybe one of these days my wrap up will include an actual double digit run…
I loveeee the Altra One 2.5’s. Actually, all three pairs of Altra in general! 24,000 steps is VERY impressive just around the house. So sorry to about your cat – hopefully the long term news is good.
So glad Ella is hanging in there! I know how stressful it can be to have a beloved pet be so sick. We’ve stopped at West Ox when we’ve parked at the lot about 1 mi away to ride on the W & OD. I love how bike friendly they are!
You just pamper that little furball! Love that you fed her from the fine china.
Yep, my tummy is wrecking my runs. With the runs. TMI.
I know you’ve had a rough few days hang in there friend. The Doritos commercial was so funny and I thought one of the best as well. WE all need a few days off of running and exercise.
I did 5 loads of laundry (and I have to go to the laundromat around the corner) on Sunday and I ended up getting a lot of steps, making me feel less guilty for not running yesterday. I’m glad Ella is feeling better, hopefully she’ll be around for a lot longer!
I have my fingers crossed for Ella. We had to do the wet food treatment with one of our cats when I was in college. They do do a good job at hiding sickness, and I hope you have some better news from the vet.
I’m glad Ella is feeling better with the medicines. And I agree about the super bowl ads, I laughed at the doritos one and loved the Heinz ad but was not a fan of the weird puppy monkey baby!
I;m glad you kittie is okay! Looks like you had a fun weekend!
I still need to watch the superbowl commercials. I don’t have cable plus they don’t show the good ads in Canada anyways so I have to catch them the next day online.
I only watched the game for the ads too, haha. That and the prop bets that my husband and I filled out (i.e. heads or tails on the coin toss, first song of the half time show, over/under on national anthem times, and all those other silly ones).
I loved the Super Bowl commercials myself, they are the best part of the whole thing in my opinion. You and the hubby always find fun things to do! Good luck with your cat and I agree someone should be using those bowl so why not her! Have a great week!
I hope Ella continues to feel better! Sending healthy vibes her way.
As for the Super Bowl – that Puppy Monkey Baby ad was so odd! But I remember it, so I guess it’s effective!
Not using the fine china. Well you do love your beer and I must admit as soon as I sat down to peek at the Super Bowl I was waking up because I fell asleep.
The Doritos ad and Heinz ads were my favorites too. All the weiner dogs in the hot dog costumes were hysterical. I laughed about using the china bowls. we chose china over 30 years ago and most of it has been used just a handful of times. Sad how it is saved for “best” and then never used.
Oh, poor sweet Ella! 🙁 I hope that everything works out. <3
I am so sorry to be missing RnR DC. It sounds like such a great time.
Aw I hope your cat feels better soon! I hate that for you!
I typically watch the Super Bowl for the ads, too. This year (and last year) I had “workouts” to do during the game…they had various drills to perform for different game things (push-ups for each new quarter, jumping jacks for commercial breaks, etc.). It broke up the monotony of the game…but I was constantly doing calisthenics, I felt like I was in constant motion LOL It made it hard to enjoy my nachos…
Okay, so I had to look up monkey puppy baby. One word: Terrifying. 😮
I’m curious to hear what you think of the Altra One. Hope things continue to go well for Ella.
It’s amazing how many steps you can get in just by doing normal housework, haha. Sorry about your stomach, I have had more than one run ruined by mine. Next week will be better!
I’ve never ran in altra’s but not sure if it would work with my shin issues. I am curious though. I also got a flight this past weekend and it was annoying bc they didn’t nmber them! so in the end I had no clue what I was drinking =/
I bet it is nice to have Beer Geek ride his bike and walk with you place. I’m not sure I could talk the hubs into walking 1.5 to eat, well not that we haven’t done it he just didn’t know ahead of time. Hate you’ve had a rough week. I think Ella deserves the fine china! Thanks Erika for linking up with us.
Glad to hear Ella is doing much better. And I love that you are giving her food on your fine china. I mean, why wait for a special occasion right? Every single day is a special occasion.
I don’t really use it for other things and these bowls are perfect sized for a cat, so…
